Tony will find our new QB

This should be a worthwhile discussion in the offseason for everyone wanting to draft a QB. For me personally, the ability to read defenses trumps everything else.

Not sure why Romo went undrafted, but thank you Sean Peyton for scouting him up for us and Jerry for hanging on to him when Sean left town for NO. The reports on Romo were that he read the field quickly. Once you determine your best matchups, most QBs can make most of the throws. Its knowing where to go with the ball that makes or breaks most QBs, IMO.

I don't doubt he could, but I question why he would. He sure won't need the paycheck and I don't see Tony wanting to put in the 100 hour weeks that the position would require. The only possible reason I could see him doing it would be for the pure love of the game and not wanting to leave it.

Either that or broadcasting. He eats it up, and I don't see him as a sit-around-and-be-rich guy.

Would you rather go 7-9 and miss the playoffs or 4-12 and get the "chance" to draft our next QB and a bell cow RB high in the second..

That is a fair point. Has anyone ever gone directly from player-to-coordinator? I don't recall anybody having done that, but I wouldn't bet against him being able to.

Biggest jump I can think of was Singletary, going from LB coach (BAL, I think?) to interim head coach of the 49ers.

I think you're on the mark about him not sitting around, but I also kind of think he may value his family time too much to commit to coaching.

Back in the day, there were numerous player-coaches but none, to my knowledge, were coordinators.

Does this worry only me? Tony is talking about his replacement here. I hope he's not thinking one more hit is it.

Not really, Jerry is still a dunce. He's doing great this year. This "pretty darn good" roster is 2-5.

Minus it's 2 best players and facing Ryan, Brees, Brady, Manning and Wilson. There are a lot of Super Bowl rings in that group. We almost won some of them with our 2nd and 3rd string QB's.

I think Jerry is going great this year. The players we normally would have over paid for we let leave. The draft went pretty well also.

Romo will be the offensive coordinator here one day in the not-to-distant future.

Book it.

Romo is a gifted player that free lances a lot.
In my opinion he is a guy that is able to play outside a system and make plays.

The problem is that his teammates are not always able to do the same. Result is big plays as well as dysfunction plays so consistency is not alwYs there

I don't know that he would make a good coach. You can't teach what he does. Kind of like having a baseball hotter with an unconventional swing be your hitting coach.

Romo is probably our best bet in finding a replacement for himself because I certainly don't want to see who Jerry would want. Such a terrifying thought a cowboys team without Romo at qb.
