Has a 2-6 team ever made the playoffs?

Since 1990 there's been 95 teams start 2-6 and none made the playoffs. To show you the true scope of how miserable this season has been for the Cowboys not even their 2010 team that went 6-10 or any of their three 5-11 teams ever lost 6 in a row.

We haven't been 2-6 since 1989. Let that sink in.

The Cowboys didn't win 2 games in 89. A 2-6 first half of the 89 season would have been somewhat encouraging after coming off a 3-13 season. The 89 team started 0-8.

I am reading some of these threads and there are still posters out there claiming we can still go to the playoffs.

I am just curious, has this ever happened before? I don't remember a team ever losing 6 games in a row in the regular season and making the playoffs before.

With these coaches and schemes, accompanied by the lack of drive and heart by their red headed leader, they will be lucky to win 5-5 games

seahawks were 7-9 a couple years back and went.

That was back in 2010 and just winning 7 games is going to be a challenge for this team because Romo is going to have to carry it. Once you get past Romo, Dez, Hardy and an OL that hasn't been as good as everyone made it out to be during the offseason there's not much there. Most solid teams can win at the very least 2-3 games without their starting QB.

The Steelers are still hanging in despite Roethlisberger missing a lot of time. They lost Bell last week and Roethlisberger again yesterday and they still won. The Cowboys are NOTHING without Romo. Jerry better get serious about drafting a solid young QB prospect to groom or the Cowboys will be picking in the top 10 every season once Romo is done.

The 1970 Cincinnati Bengals season was the team's third year in professional football and the first with the National Football League (NFL). The NFL-AFL merger took place before the season, and the Bengals made their first NFL campaign a memorable one. After winning their first ever game as a member of the NFL — their inaugural game in the brand new Riverfront Stadium — they would lose six games in a row. After the 1–6 start, however, the Bengals would win the rest of their games, rallying to an 8–6 finish and champions of the newly formed AFC Central division.

If y'all know me I'm as optimistic as they come. We're at 2-6 and I hope we find some answers as fast I found my phone this morning when I threw it across my yard last night.

I will always believe but I have MAJOR concerns.

Our one tech position is hindering our Dline and it's what will separate our defensive front with the elite teams who run the 4-3. We're also struggling on the strong side when Mincey isn't in on run plays. This is giving up two lanes on almost every play and we almost have to pick our poison with having to stop the A gap. Lee has been productive this year and McClain probably weighs more the Lawrence prancing around out there. He's lost some speed and is late finding the lane or cutting off ball carrier.

DBs have been inconsistent. Mo is having a good year and so is Jones. That's where it stops.

When you combine these problems you give opposing teams plenty to plan and scheme for.

We need to address the one tech spot ASAP.

On offense our line is gelling, McFadden is doing his share and Beasley was finally used. Williams too inconsistent and if we can bring a solid interior Dlineman we can sit Street.

Cassel did his part and two pick six's in separate games has hurt us BAD.

We only have one game before Romo returns. Beating the Bucs could go a long way but we need to go out and win to give us a fraction of momentum.

When Romo returns here's our matchups.

At MIA- they're inconsistent on offense but they have a formidable defense to keep things tight. This game should be won.

Vs CAR- The toughest game on our schedule because these guys bring it consistently on both sides of the ball. Our advantage is our Dline vs their Oline and how that comes out for us determines that outcome. Winning this game gets people talking IF we're at 5-6.

At WSH- I feel better on the road than at home. This game should be won and possibly leaves us at 6-6.

At GB- If we're at 6-6 this game has ALOT of meaning and pretty much will swing our momentum in either direction in a big way.

NYJ,BUF- Both teams are very similar with tough defenses, but both are just as inconsistent as us. Both games should be won

WSH- If we're playing for something in this matchup I would be shocked. IMO we'd have to win out for this game to matter.

Havimg Romo back masks alot of things on our team. Alot has to happen to pull off a miracle and I won't

I know...I corrected myself in another reply. Thanks.

Cowboys still have a chance, to win the div, but they have to start a win streak next week!
They can only lose 1 more time.
Cowboys are 2 games behind eagles and giants. 1 behind Commanders.
They should beat TB next week, after that they need to get hot and win some games or they will fall out of it.
Fans have been saying the same thing every week and the results haven't changed. Reality needs to set in at some point. This team is just not good enough right now
Well I am just saying there is still a chance, not that they will do it.
Dallas isnt the typical 2-6 team , had they done that with romo playing then I would say no chance too.
Also usually 1 team would be 5-2 or 6-2 at this point, but with all others with 4 losses then we are only 2 games back.
We do have to hope NY and Phil lose some more, and they will, NE should beat both of them.

Dallas needs a win next week though against TB, if they lose that, then it becomes really hard.

8-0 can do it, maybe, maybe 7-1. That is probably all.

Of course, this team without Romo and with its pathetic coaching staff and talent evaluators who don't know which players to put on the field can only string together consecutive losses that are significant, not victories.

Garrett is good at speeches though.

We all want to hope.....but the numbers don't lie....NO 2-6 team in NFL history has every made the playoffs. Winning the Division is the only hope, and that is a very long shot as of now. I am just dumb founded how this team could not find ONE win in the last 6 games...lost 6 games in a row........that tells me it is a poorly coached team with a BAD roster. This team has not played a complete game all year with or without Romo. The first 2 wins were UGLY, but hey a win is a win, and you take them anyway you can. But losing 6 straight game dates back to 1989 (another Garrett record). It has been one struggle after another under the Garrett regime ....IMO the problem lies with Coaches and Front Office for overestimating players capabilities. All they needed is ONE win....and they can't do that....lose this week....and Jerry will start seeing a drop in attendance because fans and players will CHECK OUT

Always been a Cowboy fans.....and want to see them win....but losing is the only thing the Cowboys are good at these days....2014 was an anomaly.

We only have 1 hope, dream and opportunity for the remainder of this season.
Nope, it's not making the playoffs as a wild card team.

Our only goal should be getting the highest draft choice slot we can for next year. If we can
get a top QB and RB in the draft next year with the returning core and last place schedule, we
might have an opportunity to get where we wanted to be this year. If Jerry and Stephen can't
see this, we are the clone of Cleveland come to VR.

This very thread has shown there has been one team that started 2-6 (1-6 actually) and made the playoffs and you still post that no team has?

The only chance we have is that the NFC EAST is the worst division in Football !!!!!

not true, it is deceptive, really they are avg, it is just they are all about the same, with no one team doing good above .500.
Also the byes affect this, like wash and ny did not play this last week.
the AFC South was worst last year and again this year, last week two 3-5 teams were tied for 1st place !

Also the nfce has to play the 2 div below with the most wins, afce, and nfcs !

wins after week 09
AFC

EAST 20

NORTH 17

SOUTH 11

WEST 16

NFC

EAST 14

NORTH 16

SOUTH 21

WEST 17

Man, I dont know what you guys are on. I told you a few weeks ago not to buy this crap the media was selling that 8 or 7 wins will win this division. Let's be real, do you any of honestly expect the Giants to go 2-5 over their last 7 games? Do any of you honestly expect the Eagles to go 3-5 over their last 8 games? What about us, anyone really think we are going 8-0 the rest of the year? Because that's what it is going to take. 10 wins will win this division, maybe 9..maybe.
That could happen, but I think 8-8 will take the div.
Philly, and nyg could easily lose 4 more games, and wash lose 3 more is very likely.

So we are in it till we have more than 8 losses.
Truth is all the NFCE teams still have a shot, at winning the div, who knows which one will do it.
right now the WC spots are taken by teams with 2 and 3 losses, but that could also change, 1 of them might start losing.
Could be a 6 loss team will get a wc spot. crazy stuff happens sometimes.

Let me know when Bill Walsh is designing our offense.
