Has a 2-6 team ever made the playoffs?

8-0 can do it, maybe, maybe 7-1. That is probably all.

Of course, this team without Romo and with its pathetic coaching staff and talent evaluators who don't know which players to put on the field can only string together consecutive losses that are significant, not victories.

Garrett is good at speeches though.

The best last years team could do was 6-2 in an 8 game stretch.

Does anyone really think we could go 7-1, 8-0 this year?

The 1970 Cincinnati Bengals started 1-6 and still made the playoffs. they are the only team. They ended the season 8-6. They lost 6 games in a row and ended with 7 straight wins.

Good stuff.
Thanks

So it actually HAS been done afterall.

Pretty much sure they will lose 2-3 even with Romo. The schedule is still pretty tough and the overall team--though it would then be playoff quality possibly--is not at all unbeatable.

The really must win this week.

From the Jackdonville game to the Detroit game, Dallas went 7-1, so yes they can.

I guess there is a belief that teams can just throw a switch and go from not even being able to win a single game to running the table.

Sorry, that is not how things work for the most part. Teams can stumble, bumble, then right themselves and get hot. Had they even won a game, there is more of a chance for righting the ship. It is not about the numerical value of the games, it is how it is being asked to win those games and in the context of how everything else works. Last year was a good team with momentum and confidence that went 7-1. Not a team like this one, possibly doubting themselves and then also needing a bunch of other teams to continue to struggle.

It is nearly unheard of for a team to go from flat on their face losing six consecutive games to running the table into the playoffs. It just is a very illogical assumption to make, or especially, count on. They can sure try and I hope they are going to, but to even expect it as likely is just plain

The fact that it has happened once in the modern era and in a 14 game season at that (plus having two legends in Paul Brown and Bill Walsh as coaches) should basically provide the best gauge whether the notion is reasonable or not.

I'm really not worried about the playoffs at this point in time. Just win this week and move on to the next. If they win enough, then the 2-6 mark will be less and less relevant.

Not really. It's effectively a hope on top of a hope. Nothing in recent past history suggests this because it depends upon some other part of the team stepping up just in case Romo has a bad game or is not his usual, recent self. Like I said before, it's unfair to put it all on Romo's shoulders but that's the way it's been for a long time now. Romo should have been MVP last year. If he can carry this team on its shoulders to the end result that is the goal of every season, then he should definitely be it this year. It's hard to compensate for other people's lack of execution, unpreparedness, coaching, game planning and management, and have to defeat the refs too.

After starting 1-6, that 1970 Bengals team ran off seven straight to win their division at 8-6 (14 game schedule back then).

Do you think this team can win seven straight? Even with Romo back, I don't think we can do it. We needed that win last Sunday.
