Jerry Richardson, owner of the Panthers is a former NFL player. In fact, in the NFL championship game, he caught a TD pass from Johnny Unitas.

Richardson was far more qualified to be his own GM than Jerry Jones ever was when he purchased the Dallas Cowboys.

Even so, Richardson was intelligent enough to realize he would be a very poor choice as GM. Two years ago, after an extensive search, he hired Dave Gettleman, who began as a high school coach, then a scouting intern with the Bills, a scout with the Broncos, and Director of Personnel with the Giants, in all, about 30 years NFL experience.

Richardson never interfered with the exceptiom of one time. He refused to resign Greg Hardy saying "That's not who we are."

And to any genius that suggests I switch teams....KMA.

Most NFL owners are smart men. Hence most NFL owners know their best chance for success is hiring a GM.

Yeah we have a bad GM and HC. Not breaking news.

You guys are pushing a wet noodle! Nothing to see here. Move along!

Wrong my friend you are not seeing the big picture here. As long as Jerry is in charge this team is not going anywhere in the future. You can't have an owner interfere with the day to day operations of the on field personal and coaches.

Not only that, Jerry owns over 100 businesses. Try owning one business and see how much work goes into it.

Switch teams.

Here's the thing: Jerry knows his bust in Canton is secured. He has three Super Bowls and numerous other accolades. As a consequence, he's not competing with anyone else anymore so he treats this team as his personal mad scientist laboratory. It's a matter of finding a coach who can win in spite of him.

The Panthers wanted Hardy back, but the negative stigma about him changed their mind as well as Hardy not being too keen on playing for them since they sold him out last season. And do we really think Hardy is the problem and the cause of the 3-8 record? A guy that has played 7 games and is making more plays on defense than the rest of the team?

And where was this intelligence when they went 1-15 in 2001? Or when they went 2-14 in 2010 and got Cam Newton afterward? Or the fact that Richardson made it clear last season...if the Panthers didn't make the playoffs, he was firing Ron Rivera?

JJones also played football at a high level. He was on the same National Championship team as JJohnson. I think his 25+ years of experience means his is more than qualified to run a team.

His sons also played college football and have been with the team for decades. You may not like them personally but they have put the time in and have some skins on the wall.

And the proof is in the pudding -

2013 Panthers Draft:

1st rd- Star Lotulelei - starter DT
2nd rd - Kawann Short - starter DT
5th rd - A.J. Klie- backup LB

2014 Panthers Draft:

1st rd - Kelvin Benjamin - top WR
2nd rd- Kony Ealy (Panthers got a better player at the same position despite us trading up for Demarcus Lawerence )
3rd rd - Trai Turner - starting guard
4th rd- Tre Boston - backup SS
5th rd- Bene Benwikere - backup CB

Why did this get moved to the rant zone?

When it doesnt work you fire the people responsible. Nobody more responsible than the GM. So you fire him if he is not achieving results. That is intelligent.

Keeping the same GM for 20 years without a conference championship game? Dumb!

Yes, but yet the Panthers have a rash of injuries and lose a bunch of games and watch him become a bum too.

Don't you think Hardy could have helped the Cowboys win in games 3 and 4? The New Orleans game went down to overtime. The Cowboys were literally one play away from winning. Why did he not play in that game? His actions off the field kept him off the field.

Just like New England. They have someone in place who can draft well. Jerry doesn't get it and never will. Also like to note the three Superbowl rings Jerry has are from Jimmy and the team he built. With that said, yes Jerry did hire Jimmy.. That was his only smart move since owning the Cowboys.

Panthers have never had back to back winning seasons in spite of winning the division the last 2 potentially 3 seasons.
Perhaps you could crap on them/him for that.

The funny part is, you give him credit for not resigning Hardy, yet he was contempt to let him play and really just buckled under media pressure.
