bottom line is I think JG thought the td would be enough to win the game.
So I think he was going for the td whole time, and it should have been enough.
But our defense can shut out the other team whole game, and then play terrible in that hurry up situation, not the first time
we have seen a team drive on us late.

That is why maybe the run the clock and fg is better, our defense just cant handle that last drive scenario.

What baffles me is that our defense has the third fewest plays per game this year in the league.....and only 0.1 ( one tenth) plays more than a two way tie for fewest plays shared by the Cardinals and Chargers. They are one of the freshest teams heading into the 4th quarter of games.

Equally interesting is that two of the three defenses with the most plays per game are the Eagles and Giants, both averaging about 10 more defensive plays per game than the Cowboys this season.

I

I don't think the head coach should have to tell the QB to tell the guys in the huddle simple stuff like stay in bounds. A good QB is going to do that in the huddle and a good coach will remind the QB to do it in crucial parts of the game, but we have no idea what happened. The only person I know for sure made a dumb move is the running back, who reminder or not,he should of known. Everything else is pure speculation, but those with an agenda don't care.
True and I agree with this, but consider that some of JG's players are not exactly the brightest lights in the room now are they ??
So if the situation occurs reminding them could be essential.
And It couldnt hurt anything to remind them.

well i dont think the problem is they are tired, it is more that they change to a prevent type defense , and that allows teams to just
move right on down the field.
They need to just keep playing normal , and maybe keep both safetys back, play man not zone.
But it has to be scheme not fatigue.

We had a back up QB with a chance to win his first game and a RB who put the ball on the carpet a few times and took a hit to the noggin that took him out a while. Would it be to much to ask for the HC to remind some one to stay in bounds no matter what? It's his job to handle game situations. I thought any way.

How does that throw things off the kilter? This guy is such a politician.

So he blames McFadden the drive prior and then gives a convoluted explanation about how he didn't tell McFadden to fall down. But he did say they practice the play to make it look like he knew what he was doing I guess, even though they didn't do it..

Does this guy ever say "I made a mistake."

Dmac going out of bounds allowed them to keep a timeout that they would have used had he not stopped the clock

LOL, I hear you. If the "Prevent" defense isn't preventing, it's not a Prevent defense and should be called something else...

"Head in the Sand": defense?
Surrender Defense?
Bendover Defense?
French defense?
"No Mas" Defense?
White Flag Defense?

I think it is pathetic a grown man that has played this game longer then the head coach needs to be told, but I'm not sure he wasn't told, and neither are you

Wrong answer homie. Jason said they didn't talk about it at all. Get your info str8, this isn't The Ranch, folks here actually know some stuff..I'll give you your point, DMC should've known also, Red probably assumed he was dealing with someone who wasn't from arKansas.

We wouldn't have needed the TO if we would've been a little (taken from a CZ favorite) smarterererer... :)

All I said before the game was that we couldn't let DJackson pull a Santana Moss on us. He always got behind our D and so did DJackson the one time we couldn't allow it.

This thread is really a sad thing to log in and read. No matter what side of the Garrett fence anyone is on, this is a topic that should, for the most part, be universally agreed upon. The reason you don't give the ball back to a team in that scenario is to avoid EXACTLY what happened. They go down the field with 2 time outs and score a TD to tie it. That should be proof enough why you run the clock down in that scenario, especially when you have a back-up QB and the playoffs on the line.

We just didn't think the Skins could do what they did. But would we all feel the same if we gave the ball back to the Brady or a healthy Brees with a chance to tie the game under the same set of circumstances? If the stakes were higher (ie: a playoff game) would we feel the same way?

The MNF crew, Steve Young specifically, was laughing and saying, "when a team gives you a win, you take the win." Those were almost his exact words. We gave the Skins life, just like the Giants gave us life earlier in the year. This time it worked out for us.

If a "Mistake" still wins the game, who cares? Move on to the next game.

The most predictable part of this is that if the Cowboys had run the clock down after three kneels and something happened that caused the field goal to be missed.....and we have catalogued numerous circumstances when this has occurred.......

......the same people now telling us how they would have won the game better than Jason and the Cowboys WON the game.....

...would then be criticizing the Cowboys and Jason Garrett for being too conservative or too scared or too cautious....

......including Jerry Jones.

The first victory without Romo this season and against our most bitter rival, on their field, keeping the team playoff relevant.......and it wasn't enough...they didn't win the right way.

How could the Cowboys not be inspired beyond their physical limitations to shock the world with such fan support and focused leadership from their GM/owner? It's why he should just put himself in the Ring of Honor right now.

100% dead wrong.

The most predictable thing is that no matter how obvious or egregious Garrett's failures/mistakes are, there will be those who make excuses and defend him until the end.
This is football 101 stuff.

You forgot about the freakin' first play. Run for a yard TO GET the first down, force timeout. Then on first down take a knee. Force timeout. Take TWO MORE KNEES!!!!! Do the math please.

No, I did not forget about the freaking first play. The scenario as presented was for Cassel to take three knees after the fumble. A little comprehension goes a long way…

No, when McFadden got the TD it was exactly 1:13 left on the clock so I don't know where you're getting your time from. If they had taken a knee 3 straight times after McFadden got that 1st down, Washington would have no more than 15 seconds left with no TO's. They would have no time to complete 1 pass without running out of time.

The scenario as presented was for Cassel to take three straight knees. Nowhere was getting a first down mentioned.

Maybe he meant take three straight knees after the run out of bounds. But wait… That presents another problem, since taking three straight knees what exhaust second, third, and even fourth-down, in that situation.

The logical assumption was that he was suggesting Cassel take three straight knees after the fumble, discounting the first down run out of bounds.

And some people look for all sorts of excuses for simply bad coaching..

Coaches run hundreds of plays. None of them – and I repeat, none of them – tell each player there specific job on every play throughout a season. It falls incumbent on the player to know his assignment for any play that is called. The only excuse would be if the play was not practiced.

The "fall down" play is one Garrett says they practice. As such, it's incumbent upon McFadden to know his assignment. That's not bad coaching if the player doesn't take care of his business.

So you wanted Garret to call timeout on second down and implement your plan or did you want him to have Linehan call it through Cassell in the first 30 seconds of play clock?

I have no doubt QB Young laughed at how that game was managed.

Yes. That's it. I was hoping Garrett would use his time outs to make the game even more interesting. I like being relevant and entertained that way.
