if one initially made the link between the Patriots low fumble rates and deflated footballs, the natural follow-up would be to assume that New England's fumble rates would revert toward the league average in 2015.
So what happened in 2015?

• The Patriots had the fewest fumbles of any NFL offense.
• The Patriots had the best fumble rate of any NFL offense.
• The Patriots had one of their best fumble rates of the past decade.

What I'm happy about is how the whole fumble stat stuff has been proven to be complete nonsense, like I have been saying since March.

If the Patriots had increased fumble rates, you'd be in here gloating, so don't begrudge me my right to do the same.

As I pointed out before, if Jordan Spieth went out and played with a smaller golf ball and then got caught...it would not preclude him from being a cheat if he started using a regulation size golf ball and still won.

The problem we have is with Goodell. When he played accomplice to SpyGate it sent the message to the Patriots that it's perfectly fine to cheat because the good ole commish would back them out. Eventually, the found that wasn't Goodell's M.O. and have convinced many in the world that Goodell is out to get the Patriots. Now we really don't know what else they are possibly up to like possibly paying off referees, filming practices or even *still* deflating footballs.

We also forget that this has been warmest winter, especially on the East Coast, in quite some time. The deflated footballs were used in crappy weather games where it was more likely to have the ball come loose.

It is the same reason people believed Lance Armstrong. He was already one of the best cyclists ever. Add the doping and he becomes immortal, like Bonds, ARod, Clemens.

The Patriots are a disciplined, well coached team. They should fumble less. The fumble rate was looked at because they got caught cheating. The cheating being the provable part, the fumble rate was just a theory based on them being caught cheating.

You seem to be missing the point. Regardless of whether or not they actually benefited from the cheating is not the point. They broke the rules and tried to cover it up because they thought it was benefiting them. This is lost in you for some strange reason. As I've said many times before, gaseous physics is not an exact science when it comes to this situation. Even Thomas Healy has concurred with that statement. And there were footballs that read as low as 10.5 PSI which does deviate beyond the expected range.

So, we have footballs that were well below that expected range (as much as 10.5 PSI) and we have scientists that are proponents of the Ideal Gas Law that claim that concur that it's not an exact science anyway.

I don't think that proves AEI's point (as they conveniently neglect the footballs that read below 11.0 PSI and just go with the average).


That's where the text messages come into play. It's irresponsible and intellectually dishonest to claim that there's hard evidence that proves their point. They may have a point and that may make it hard to come to conclusion of guilty...but, the evidence is nowhere near strong enough to presume innocence.

Instead, we have text messages between 2 equipment guys where they are specifically talking about deflating footballs for payment from Tom Brady. And when the story broke (before their names broke), they were texting each other trying to get their stories straight and checking up on Jastremski to see if he was okay. That and they have video of him sneaking off to the bathroom with the footballs by himself...something he was not supposed to do.

Tom Brady wouldn't pay Jastremski to deflate footballs unless he knew it was illegal. Even if they were supposed to be deflated to the legal limit of 12.5 PSI...that's Jastremski's job. You only pay a guy in that situation if he's doing something illegal and it's his butt on the line if they get caught.

That's what none of the Patriots fanboys can refute. They will argue an inexact science and try to make it exact even though experts will tell you that it's not an exact science. That's the only argument they have. But, they can't admit that argument is more or less 'iffy' and the texts show a plan to do it, a motive and payment for it along with a video showing Jastremski breaking protocol and having the opportunity to do it.

You mean when McNally went into a water closet that didn't have a urinal or toilet in it? Or, the fact that it's the responsibility of the officials to hand the game balls over to the attendant, not for the attendant to go into their locker room and remove the balls without the officials present?

In the grand scheme, I have never felt that any of this was a big deal. The Patriots would have won by three touchdowns if they used medicine balls against the Colts. But, your constant, incessant need to defend their clearly shady antics on the day of the game is off the charts insane.

No, you're the one missing the point: my point isn't "they cheated but it didn't help them." My point is "they didn't cheat. The laws of physics and the fact that nothing has changed are the pieces of evidence irrefutably supporting that conclusion."
