Tony Romo still thinks he can come back at a high level, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes that too.

But after watching another season go off the rails when he was injured, both sides know what’s coming next.

Via Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Romo said he’s already had a conversation with Jones about the future at the position, and is fine with using the No. 4 overall pick on a quarterback if he’s the best fit for the Cowboys...

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones got a glimpse of what life after Tony Romo might look like this season, and it wasn't pretty.

Jones admitted earlier this season that he needs to put the Cowboys in a better position to succeed at quarterback, if Romo goes down again, and he is expected to make good on that promise this offseason.

In an interview on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones suggested that he would consider using the Cowboys' first-round 2016 NFL Draft pick, at No. 4 overall, on a quarterback...

There's no reason for Romo to sweat a rookie coming and relieving him short of an injury mishap.

Even then, an experienced vet QB will surely be acquired for that chore this year.

I completely agree with your assessment of the future at QB for Dallas. I'm not sure how I would take the addition of Manziel, but he has strengths in throwing the ball and is elusive in the pocket as well.

Maybe the likes of Tony Romo, Jason Witten, and Sean Lee could dampen his 'bad boy' complex.

That, or just have Smith, Frederick, and Martin leave him looking like a racoon in the locker room a couple of times.

The mere thought of Manziel or even RGIII doesn't really give me cause to celebrate by any stretch. Manziel might make a good drinking buddy for Jerry but aside from that, he doesn't seem to hold much promise of turning over a new leaf anytime soon. RGIII doesn't turn me on either. As a pocket passer, he hasn't displayed much promise and his days as a dangerous running option certainly appear to be over and done with. Those skinny legs betrayed him once already and might be likely to do so again, I'm afraid. Neither himself nor Manziel appear to hold much hope of inspiring great confidence in their locker room comrades, either. I'm seriously hoping a candidate other than those two might turn up eventually.

Until he has an off game, throws a pic or takes a sack, every qb expert around here will be calling to bench him for the rookie

Likely so but Jerry would have to be the one to decide his fate. As much as he loves Romo, it's unlikely he'd replace him without an ironclad excuse to do so. Even then, there's room for doubt.

Well thank God we have his permission.

I didn't take it like that. I just took it like the media asked him what he thought and he said 'no problem.' It's not like he was asked for his permission or expected to be asked for his blessing.

Romo knows the deal. He's not going to last forever and the only way you last around this league is if you're better than your competition. And if you're not, you don't deserve to be playing.

Yeah, folks on here act like Tony calls a press conference to give his thoughts on the draft when he is just politely answering a question
