well we hit huge with dez in the draft but looks like we struck out with Gregory (so far) hopefully if we go on a free agency frenzy we hit gold... if we do then we can turn it around quick especially with a good draft
 
If we have to take a flier on a DE and Hardy has burned his bridge to Dallas, Mario Williams might
could make a comeback here if he would entertain a short term deal similar to DWare. I still think
I might like DWare if he's released for a one year deal.
 
Dware would be good just for the simple fact all the pressure wont be on him, and hes got championship experience, good attitude and I know he would want to bring a ring here. get him and Mario Williams lol that would be fantastic

Hardly enough said, it was a one year they can get away from him now without penalty. The deal really makes this more of a kick the tyres scenario that didn't pan out. Took him for a test drive and returned it to the lot. Not their problem going forward. Not a bad decision, more of a mildly poor one.

Seems to me like mildly poor turned into plain old poor in the end. We could have 'kicked the tires' on someone else and possibly had much better results. Not really a disaster -- just a waste of time and resources in the end. I'm just hoping we won't see fit to ignore the red flags in the future. Hardy had problems in Carolina that made them see fit to rid themselves of him, not to mention later incidents that were well documented.

The only gold the Cowboys ever struck in free agency was with Deion and TO. A lot of teams get screwed in free agency and the Cowboys certainly have over the years most notably by Marcellus Wiley back in 2004. If you want to build a great team you have to do it through the draft. The Cowboys greatest players were players they drafted.

La'roi Glover was a good FA signing. He was just on terrible teams. Marc Columbo was another good one. But outside of those guys, productive free agents are almost non-existent.

When you think of the dozens, or perhaps hundreds of free agents Jerry has signed over the years, that's a pretty pathetic success rate.

Ken Hamlin had a good couple years... man we are overdue for some success in free agency.

We signed a few good ones but the core of your team has to be built through the draft. Top tier free agents are over priced and rarely live up to their contracts. A lot of them seem to lose their motivation once they get their big contract.

that's true. the draft is everything.. but I think there are some guys out there in free agency who can help us, we just have to be careful and if we wanna make one last push with Tony Romo, I say we go for it.

I don't get the big concern over a 1 tech DT. In a 3-4 it is important to eat up blockers and free up you LB'ers. In a 4-3 you seldom play a true 1 tech. Weak side will inside shade the guard, sure, but he is not trying to engage the center and guard like a NT would. I am just not sure people understand the purpose of the technique or how limited it really is in this defense, which relies on speed more than brute strength.

There's certainly players out there that can help us it's making sure we target players who are going to fit what we're doing. If we were going to make a last push with Romo we should have kept the team we had in place after the 2014 season. We were clearly on the right track all we needed was to improve the defense. Now with the team coming off a 4-12 season and Romo's age and collarbone injuries have many talking QB at #4 overall for the Cowboys we may be starting to approach the beginning of the end for Romo.
