It's essentially a one year deal

Eagles can't walk away after this season for minimal cost...total cost to the birds is a bit less than this year's franchise tag

Not that bad of a deal for philly

Myles Jack looks like a definite franchise player. None of these QBs may be better than 'passable'. I just don't see anything less than a franchise qb winning here. Unless we somehow get an elite D, a passenger QB won't get it done. I don't see anything elite in this years QB class

Romo, as a franchise qb, also hasn't won here. So I guess we should forget the qb, and not use one on offense.

He has not made plays behind the LOS. A coverage LB is not a #4 pick in the draft. People are looking at his athleticism and projecting that he can be a pressure LB also.

Everyone agrees that the top 2 if not all 3 QBs have the tools to be very good NFL QBs with some experience. That is also a projection.

I would rather take the risk on the QB than the LB

Remember when Bobby Carpenter and OL Cooper were the "safest" picks? How'd that turn out?

I laugh when arm chair GMs on CZ spout cliches like "don't reach for a qb" or "BPA"

How do you know we reached? That is hindsight. BPA for me may not be BPA for you. It is ALL relative.

If a player is there at my pick that my scouts tell me can be a franchise QB, I'm taking him. Period

Well Philly has solidified themselves with the worst QB in the division again this year. Great news as far as I'm concerned.

Gill Brandt on the deal:

$11MM Signing Bonues

2016: $5.5MM prorated signing bonus + $7MM guaranteed base salary = $12.5MM cap hit (guaranteed money)

2017: $5.5MM prorated signing bonus + $13MM base salary ($4MM is guaranteed) = $18.5MM cap hit ($9MM cap savings if cut)

However, there is apparently also another $4MM in guaranteed money if he gets hurt.

So if you cut him because he sucks in 2016, you are looking at a $22MM in guaranteed money. If he gets hurt, you are looking at $26MM in guaranteed money.

I just don't know why they just didn't tag him. Would have cost them $19MM and they could have walked at year end.

Based on what? Mediocre stats during a shirt college career?
Being a weakside run-and-chase linebacker projected to be able to play middle linebacker?
Or is it based on him being injured right now and not even showing the NFL what he's capable of?

There's nothing "elite" in this class period. At any position. Not one sure thing, can't miss, no questions prospect.

And if that's the case, I'm filling the one need that I can't fill anywhere else. When Sam Bradford is getting $18 million a year based on his history, anyone that can't see that quarterbacks are the rarest commodity in sports is simply blinding themselves.

Because they are signing him thinking he will play well. If he does, they have him for another year at a low rate. If they franchise him he can walk or play hardball

If he does not and they cut him, it is s 3 million more loss which is peanuts

Over the Cap's assessment of the contract is a little bleaker. Their take suggests Philly pushed money back into the 2nd year and if he stinks or gets hurt, they have a much bigger dead money pill to take in 2017.
