Role Players should be paid accordingly. "Minimum Salary". Please see the Contract Terms for T Charlie Brown and CB Josh Thomas as reference for what Dunbar's Contract Terms should have been. Why spend extra cap money when it is not necessary.

Haha, that's what this has come to now? This is a very Alexander-like post. Get owned in a post, then weasel your way out of it with a new petty argument.

So Dunbar got a one year very cheap deal. Problem? It wasn't cheap enough. :lmao2:

Also, for the love of all that is good, Brown and Thomas ARE NOT SIMILAR to Dunbar.

Dunbar had significant playing time in 2013. Brown? No. Thomas? No. These are deep depth options, or at best, a MAYBE starter if the true starter goes down.

Brown has more career games played under his belt than Dunbar. At least Brown was once a starter for New Orleans. Dunbar has proven nothing except for a few glimpses of hope. We need to move on from scrub players like Dunbar and start molding a new rookie free agent or draft pick RB.

Because NFL teams aren't made up of either a, superstars on long-term contracts or b, league minimum players on one year deals. There are guys in between those two extremes. Lance Dunbar is one of those examples.

His "games played" doesn't matter, at all. Here? He started ONE game. Since 2010, he's started 23 games. Majority of those came in one season before Saints let him go.

He will most likely not see playing time unless someone in front of him goes down. Dunbar? He will be used nearly every game even as the third string RB. Are you understanding the difference here?

The arguments here against the Dunbar signing are reaching more and more

Dunbar is a scatback, they are available everywhere - Debunked
Dunbar is strictly a third down player - Debunked
Dunbar is a progress stopper - Debunked

Now, he's getting a little more than vet minimum and that's something to complain about? Is this going to stop us from drafting or signing another RB? Will it cause a cap crisis now or in the future? The only valid criticism towards Dunbar is his history of injury...which everyone agrees with.

I was just going to reply with the injury caveat, and then you included that, too, at the end. I agree.

my God, the negativity is staggering on this site...Dunbar is a good and cost-effective signing...the upside to this guy is pretty large...if he gets hurt, it doesn't crush the team financially...if he stays healthy, it helps the offense greatly

I swear, everyone wants every signing to be the next coming of the triplets....

If we overpay our guys by 1m each, that adds up really quick

Beasley, Gachkar, Hanna, Wilber, Dunbar, Wilcox, Heath are all slightly overpaid.

They are backups that can be replaced by 1st contract guys but we don't trust our young guys

Any RB we draft.. He can't stay healthy at all. And it's a waste of money.

Only if they don't draft a RB until 5th round or later, in which case there is no real expectation he would be worth playing over Dunbar anyway. If they draft a RB in the first few rounds Dunbar isn't going to hold him back.

I like the re-signing. He was having a good season up until he got injured. He's a playmaker.

Excellent Point. Logical thinking and fiscal responsibility with respect to the Roster "Bottom Feeders" just cannot be understood on this board and with the Front Office/Head Coach.

None of these guys is particularly overpaid. And most of them aren't players who can be easily replaced by rookies or 'first contract guys.' There's a reason why all players, on all teams, since forever, typically have contracts that pay more over time with the assumption that as you get reps and time in a system you play better than a guy coming in off the street.

There usually are good explanations for why things that make no sense and are not true cannot be easily understood.

Agreed. Seems a lot of fans believe there is a Costco where teams can pull any old player they want off a shelf and take him home to replace another player. It's not that easy, and going cheaper isn't always the best route. Experience, both in the game and with the team matters. Subtle things matter as well - for example, just because fans don't see Hanna catching a lot of passes doesn't mean he isn't contributing in other ways.

Where is the rant zone for this guy?

You're just arguing on principle at this point man. Calling Lance Dunbar a "bottom feeder" (more or less guys like Beasley and Hanna, who also have real value to this offense) is just biased and hurts the credibility of your posts. There are plenty of bad contracts to debate on this team, but a $1.7m show-me deal on a RB who can be a weapon isn't a good one to make your stand on. I would bet that Tony is glad to have him back for that cost.

"I'd like the CB value pac, please. What's the price on that? League minimum? Great. Now, DEs.....how much are they per-pound again? Yes, I want the prime cut and not that nasty choice cut you tried to sell me last time..."

No doubt. I tried to make that point earlier in the thread re: what Dunbar makes you do with your personnel because of the fact that you can run him at a pass defense or pass with him against a run defense, but I think it got drowned out by everybody pretending he was somebody we were likely to replace in the draft. There's value in having hard-working guys who know the system and know the drills and who do things the right way.
