I'm just acknowledging all is not going to plan. They wanted players. They couldn't get them. Now they are bringing in backup options. We know they were in on Forte, now they look to Morris. We know Robinson isn't their first choice, they had Carroll and Hall in first. Chris Long was scheduled and bailed ,so now we're waiting for the league to return our call on Benson Mayowa.

They had a plan to start FA and they haven't been able to execute it. Of course you'll mention price, but again...that's handbook stuff. All negotiations come down to price. The point is they failed to get the players they targeted. They whiffed. Other than Thornton.

Heck, here's an article from David Moore literally titled a whiff on Long....

If you want to take that perspective...

I disagree.

I don't think they had a plan to pursue many of these players at all.

It was all floating of rumor. And even Stephen Jones himself admitted that they were not serious players on Weddle.

Their design is what you have seen.

Quick shot, one player only in free agency, then get out.

The rest is a smoke and mirror show to keep relevance, perhaps a stumble upon free agent with low self esteem that takes our miniscule offer.

This is called "doing whatever you want in free agency".

Whiffing on one now, with the rookie cap in place, is far less damaging that it had been previously. Yes, missing on one means you blew a top five pick, but the money outlay isn't nearly as damaging.

You just have to trust your scouts. Scouting the single most difficult position to find in sports.

OK, now maybe I am a little scared now...... ;)

That's the rub I'd hate to pass up a generational talent like, say Ramsey (not that I'm sure he's that guy, for the record) only to whiff when he was sitting right in our laps. I've said it once and I'll say it again. I hate this off-season.

I don't know. The part where the coaching staff was pulling their hair out with his antics on the goal line for starters.

You can't even compel yourself to admit they made a mistake counting on that mental deficient.

Him going against the coaches trying to score made him garbage?

Stupid. Yes.

Garbage? No.

And again our rushing attack of 2015 all things considered was better than it was in 2014.

Why is it facts always ruin your arguments? That must be annoying.

True, but the NFL is a league now where there aren't 32 good starters in the league, much less good backups. There aren't too many teams that could afford to lose a top 10 QB and not have their season, for all intents and purposes, be over.

While last season was frustrating on many levels, when Romo went down, I believed that the season was over. I can't say that I believed that they were only going to win two games the rest of the season, but I didn't think that they would be able to rebound and make the playoffs.

I felt the same and we were right. I want more than anything for Garrett and Gang to prove me wrong next time.

It's not easy, that's for sure. I like Ramsey much more as a safety than a CB, and it raises the question of whether taking a safety at #4 is the most prudent use of resources.

I absolutely hate the idea of taking Bosa - I don't see special at all with him. Myles Jack is intriguing, but coming off of a knee injury, I would be hesitant taking someone that high coming off of a cartilage injury - I would worry about how long you can expect to have him with his wheels at a high level, and his game is all about his wheels.

On the nosey with all of that, my friend.

I don't see Ramsay being there to pass on. But I do think they draft a safety in the first 3 rounds. I think they have had enough of poor safety play.

they whiffed in FA pure and simple. An amazing draft can make up for it.

No doubt the best teams by far build most thru the draft, but FA isn't over and I wouldn't say they completely whiffed. Could have better though

As much as I like the Thornton signing, now they are making me want to dislike it.

Now, he is going to be held to a standard as a pass rusher by our dumb fan base that listens to what the organization states.

He's the messiah on defense, Hardy was suppose to be last year. None of the changes they ever make are philosophical and coaching related..

How about pairing Hardy with Thornton, you know... I mean I'm not a genius, but at least Hardy will play with a guy that doesn't get blown off the ball by a single OL and actually takes up double-teams, maximizing the impact of Greg and TC..

This is basically the first time in years, Dallas has the opportunity to pair a DE with LEGITIMATE DTs...

I'd say that defensive tackle was a pretty good ad.

Of course it was...very good for sure.
Shining Ro McClain was good too.

I'd like more though, personally.
But it hasn't been a total whiff and there will be more.

in the last 6 seasons they have had a one winning season in twenty years they have won three playoff games so now I don't trust any thing they say. I am in the mode prove to me that you can be a consistent winner year after year whether it is through the draft or free agency show me. I support whatever they do but at sometime what you are doing has to work.

My definition of "wiff" is you missed. Didn't get player you wanted.

I always spell it with a "wh". Makes the swishing sound effect on a swing and miss much more profound. Like how Dan Patrick used to do it on Sportscenter back in the day.

Yea.

-Letting our best DL walk
If your referring to Hardy, letting the locking room Cancer go is fine with me. Hardys 6 sacks/20 pressures isn't worth disrupting the Team atmosphere. (See T.O.)
-Taking a passive approach to Free Agency and looking for instant impact in the draft
I'm actually relieved JJ is continuing with the Idea of building a team via the draft and hasn't strapped this team down with ridiculously large Contracts that would threaten to dismantle the main strength of this team- the Offensive Line. Not to mention, the fact that this team has more holes than the 2 or 3 players we would afford if we did sign these high prices FreeAgents.
-Whiffing on multiple free agents
"Whiffing" and "not wanting to overspend" are entirely two different things. But you'd have to be able to look beyond 2016 to know this. And that's exactly what the Jones are doing when they say "we're building through the draft".. So you might as well get used to it. It's what the better team do. So you should also try being proud of "your" team too.
-Passing up a potential Franchise QB for a CB or DE
And if your referring to the first round pick. Well, i guess we'll see. The fact is more than half of these "sure-fire" first round QB's never pan out and 17 of the last 45 (1st RDers) have ever won a playoff game. So let's not act like Goff or Wentz are the next coming of Aikman. That's a big gamble to take for a "back-up" QB. Personally I'd rather draft at a position that has a higher success rate and it just happens to be something this team needs..Defense. And I really don't care who.. Bosa, Ramsey, Jack..Just give me some playmakers! Besides, there's a number of developmental QBs later in this draft. If Romo can rise from undrafted, then guys like Lynch, Allen, Cook, Jones, and Driskle can too.
It literally gets no worse than that
Yes it's could.. Your obviously a new Cowboy fan. It can get a lot worse, expecially when the Cap controls this team.
