It'd be a hard sell to try to replace Hardy's production with a rotation of Cedric Thornton and Benson Mayowa.

Actually the Hardy of last year isn't as hard to replace as the Hardy of a few years before.....

Thornton was nice. I just wanted to see more. I said two months ago I wanted an aggressive FA period so that the front office felt it addressed 2016 enough to make them comfortable taking a QB in the 1st round. They didn't do that.

Now if they still take a QB, all is good in my world. But if this leads to a non QB pick like I suspect, hide all kittens. I'm kicking 50 yard FGs.

I agree that that was the only way Dallas could address the QB position. I also believe if they wanted to pick a QB at No. 4 they would have more aggressively addressed the secondary and DE needs. I believe they feel either Ramsey or Bosa will be there at four and that's who they plan to take, so it wasn't pressing for them to pick up great players at those spots, just depth ... which is primarily what they've gone after.

I do think they seem to be targeting DBs with starting experience over DEs with starting experience, which makes me believe they are leaning toward DE with the first pick (possibly because they don't expect Ramsey to be there and they know that one of Bosa or Buckner will be and partly because they just spent a first-round pick on a CB/S).

Sadly. Though it's a lot easier to believe in Hardy this year than the other scrubs. We're in a bind at DE.

That's one factor at play here with the frugal FA period. Frederick, Martin and Collins. They all need to be re-signed and all three will command big deals.

They have been using that boogeyman since TFred was drafted.

they whiffed in FA pure and simple. An amazing draft can make up for it.

They only whiffed on Chris Long, everyone else wanted money the Cowboys weren't willing to give. I guarantee you if anyone whiffed it's the NYG, they have over 100mil tied up in guaranteed money alone.

Let's be honest - if Romo goes down with a season ending injury, the season is very likely over anyway.

Letting a guy like Goff play behind this offensive line with a run heavy emphasis will allow him to develop. I actually think, the presence of Wade Wilson notwithstanding, that the Cowboys are a great place for a Goff or Wentz to end up.

It doesn't have to be over. Look what Denver did in that situation this year. If you have capable backup, and a great defense, you can win.

Isn't building through the draft what most sensible people have been saying for years? I guess I just fail to understand the outrage for not overpaying for average players.

I'm glad Stephen isn't using the injury excuse for our season last year. It was a factor, no doubt, but you should be able to win more than 4 games even with your best two players out.

Some sensible people, the rest are flip-floppers who find something to whine about every off-season.

Yea Hardy isnt coming back

The Cowboys refuse to declare publicly that Greg Hardy won't return, but executive vice president Stephen Jones conceded Sunday that the two sides haven't had any discussions.
This means they still might try to sign him after the draft. Also it gives them some leverage if he has no other offers, and it lowers
his asking price.
I think it is still a option they might use.
