Polian said some interesting things yesterday on Sirius satellite radio: Among the things he said:

1. Tony Romo is one of the "elite" QBs in the NFL. He says there are 8 of them (nine if you include CaM Newton in the discussion). He does not include Eli Manning in that elite group. He also said that Peyton Manning was one of the 8 he listed, so he doesn't count anymore so really there are 7 active and 8 if you include Cam. (We already knew this it was just interesting to hear someone in the media use common sense rather than saying Oh, yeah, Eli is in that group based on his two SB rings, etc.)

2. He says Elliott is definitely in the discussion at #4, and if you don't go QB with the pick at #4 or trade down ......that based on talent Elliot is the pick, like it is a no brainer, and a foregone conclusion.

You cannot realistically include Cam in that list. Dude has been in the NFL for five years and he has had only a single good season.

That's like eating at a restaurant five different times and four of the five sucked, but the one time did not. Now, you consider it a 5 Star restaurant. Yeah, No.

Cam is an Elite QB. MVP, OPOY, and All-pro in the same season.

No, he's not. He was lackluster before last season, and then he took advantage of a smothering defense and a relatively easy schedule a year ago. Then, he showed his true colors in the Super Bowl.

Watch this year. He'll revert back to his former self. Certainly not a bad quarterback, but hardly elite.

Yes he is. You dont accomplish what he accomplished last year, and not be considered elite. We would trade any season Romo had for the season Cam had last year in a second.

Oh, good lord that is dumb. Romo at his best is so mind-numbingly better than Cam, it's not worthy of discussion. Romo sees the game in a way Cam could only dream of.

With Cam's defense last year, Romo would have three rings.

Romo has had many, many tremendous years in Dallas. Cam has had one.

How is that dumb? Cam led his team to the Super Bowl and was MVP. Do I think Romo is better, of course, but that doesnt mean Cam isnt elite. Once again, you dont accomplish what Cam did last year and not be considered elite. You act as if he was a bus driver.

Elite is to be superior to peers, and though not in the traditional form Cam is an elite QB in this league.

Cam is arguably elite. Sports media wants to scare you into thinking its racist not to call him elite. He went to the super bowl and he's elite at certain things. If reading a defense, audibling based on pre-snap defenses, and anticipating and timing where the receiver is going to be constitutes being elite then I wouldn't consider him elite.

Eli led his team to two Super Bowls. Do you consider him an elite QB?

Cam had an elite year, despite completing less than 60 percent of his passes, up until Denver's defense made him revert to his previous form.

If he's going to be an elite QB, he's going to have to build on what he accomplished.

45 TDS
15-1 record
Several 4th Quarter comebacks
NFC Champion

Once again, if he were a Cowboy, you are agreeing with me.

Yep.............that'll lose you the big games every time.

Get in his head...............plenty of room to roam.

Cam is the reason the Panthers lost That's not an elite QB.

The thing that separates Newton from many of his peers is his running ability. If you just look at elements of his passing game, he is nothing special by today's statistical standards. He is under 60% for completions (both last year and for his career) and under 4000 yards per season (about 240yds/game last year) Now throw in his 10 rushing TD's this past season, and his value as a QB increases pretty dramatically.
Personally, I wouldn't put him in the "elite" category yet because he had one exceptional year. If he can consistently deliver for a couple of more years what he did this past season, then I would probably put him up there amongst the elite. Just my worthless opinion.

No. I would agree, just like I said, that he had an elite year. That does not make him an elite QB.

There's a difference in having one great year and proving that you belong among the best QBs playing the position at a high level year after year.
