with the 8th pick in the '02 draft the Cowboys selected Roy Williams S OU.
The Ravens picked Ed Reed S from the U hours later at pick 24.
I was a big a fan of our pick as anyone! Roy was my pet cat. Looking back I'm sure 99% of us would pick Reed in a redraft.

All this to say opinions are great and everyone has one but let's not be so quick to dismiss others opinions because you're sure your guy is the better pick.

In this wacky world that is the NFL draft you just never know.

If you don't remember, Roy Williams was a great pick/player until he "changed his life". He shouldn't have sold his soul. :muttley:

Was he a top 10 pick?
English and history are your friends

Right, but that has nothing to do with the suggestion that you don't take a safety in the top 10. The right move was to draft a safety; just a different one.

Reed was certainly worth a top 10 pick.
Give me any HoF'er at any position in the top ten!

Eddie van halen was a great guitar player until he gave up drugs

I really do miss Roy. He's the guy that really got me excited about the draft process. I remember playing Madden fantasy draft, and starting over every time he was picked ahead of me. He was such a beast. It's a damn shame.

What are you guys on crack? Yes, Ed Reed was drafted #24 overall, but you ******** right you select him top 10 if he is there. (with hindsight) To do otherwise would be absolutely IGNORANT.

For the record Roy Williams was worth the 8th pick overall. He made way more of an impact than Ed Reed in his first 4-5 years. He was literally the face of the Cowboy's franchise for a few years. Reed was a great safety, but i wouldn't trade him for the memories of having Roy Williams regulating in our defensive back field when he was at the top of his game. He single handedly made the Cowboys defense entertaining.

The game changed around Roy Williams and made him less effective. A couple of rule changes here and there, and the fact that the league became much more pass focused really took away his ability.

Then he became the flabby beer belly of the franchise.
