There are a lot of reasons for optimism heading into the season. Several positions were upgraded and the return of some healthy starters should make a world of difference.
QB - Romo will be back, Moore and Prescott should see a lot of time during camp and preseason. Hopefully one of the two emerges as a legit backup.
RB - what was a weakness is a huge strength now. Mcfadden may have rushed for 1,500 yards if he had been the starter all year and he might not even make the team this year. If Dunbar can make it back he has proven to be a valuable weapon in the passing game and with an occasional carry. Morris should add something we haven't seen in a while with some size and power. Even the rookie 6th rd pick might find a role.
WR - the return of Dez makes the whole group stronger. Williams will be fighting for a contract. Beasley is sneaky good. Butler should have a bigger role. If Street wants to stay in the NFL this is his time to shine. They should come up with a few more creative ways to give Lucky the ball too.
OL - The shiny diamond of the team and they have only scratched the surface on how good they can be. The should be even better this year and the addition of Zeke should help them shine.
TE - I consider it a positive that Hanna should see more action. I always thought he had a lot more potential than he had been allowed to demonstrate. I hope he and Tony can get in sync. He could be a great weapon.
The defense has more questions but there is reason for hope.
CB's Scandrick back should be a big boost. Claiborne is healthy and put on a little weight. He also is on a one year deal and has every incentive to demonstrate his abilities. Carr has been ok but also has incentive to have a great year if he wants to stick around.
FS Byron Jones should give us something we haven't seen in a long time. A FS that can cover a lot of real estate and with a lot of athleticism. He could be a lot of fun to watch this year.
SS- Church has always been a solid run stuffer and with improvement in the rest of the backfield hopefully his liabilities can be minimized.
LB's Lee and Mcclain are healthy and have Jaylon Smith to look over their shoulders at. Especially Mcclain. Hitchins Wilson and Gachkar are at the point in their careers where they should show some progress.
DT - another position that was weak but now is a huge strength. The additions of Collins and Thornton should make the rotation much stronger as should the return to health of crawford. Jack Crawford and David Irving could show a leap in progress as well.
DE - this is the position that worries me the most but could surprise. If Dlaw and Gregory come back from suspension hungry and ready to prove something it could end up being a blessing as others will get a chance to have real playing time. I liked Tapper leading into the draft and he could prove to be a great situational player. The FA from the Raiders should help as well.
The salary cap is improving and should be in good shape going forward.
With some health this could be an exciting year.
