An optimistic view of the upcoming season

There are a lot of reasons for optimism heading into the season. Several positions were upgraded and the return of some healthy starters should make a world of difference.

QB - Romo will be back, Moore and Prescott should see a lot of time during camp and preseason. Hopefully one of the two emerges as a legit backup.

RB - what was a weakness is a huge strength now. Mcfadden may have rushed for 1,500 yards if he had been the starter all year and he might not even make the team this year. If Dunbar can make it back he has proven to be a valuable weapon in the passing game and with an occasional carry. Morris should add something we haven't seen in a while with some size and power. Even the rookie 6th rd pick might find a role.

WR - the return of Dez makes the whole group stronger. Williams will be fighting for a contract. Beasley is sneaky good. Butler should have a bigger role. If Street wants to stay in the NFL this is his time to shine. They should come up with a few more creative ways to give Lucky the ball too.

OL - The shiny diamond of the team and they have only scratched the surface on how good they can be. The should be even better this year and the addition of Zeke should help them shine.

TE - I consider it a positive that Hanna should see more action. I always thought he had a lot more potential than he had been allowed to demonstrate. I hope he and Tony can get in sync. He could be a great weapon.

The defense has more questions but there is reason for hope.

CB's Scandrick back should be a big boost. Claiborne is healthy and put on a little weight. He also is on a one year deal and has every incentive to demonstrate his abilities. Carr has been ok but also has incentive to have a great year if he wants to stick around.

FS Byron Jones should give us something we haven't seen in a long time. A FS that can cover a lot of real estate and with a lot of athleticism. He could be a lot of fun to watch this year.

SS- Church has always been a solid run stuffer and with improvement in the rest of the backfield hopefully his liabilities can be minimized.

LB's Lee and Mcclain are healthy and have Jaylon Smith to look over their shoulders at. Especially Mcclain. Hitchins Wilson and Gachkar are at the point in their careers where they should show some progress.

DT - another position that was weak but now is a huge strength. The additions of Collins and Thornton should make the rotation much stronger as should the return to health of crawford. Jack Crawford and David Irving could show a leap in progress as well.

DE - this is the position that worries me the most but could surprise. If Dlaw and Gregory come back from suspension hungry and ready to prove something it could end up being a blessing as others will get a chance to have real playing time. I liked Tapper leading into the draft and he could prove to be a great situational player. The FA from the Raiders should help as well.

The salary cap is improving and should be in good shape going forward.

With some health this could be an exciting year.

Still problems with pressure and pass defense but I suspect we will be middle of the pack plus defense and top seven offense. O will have to cover.

I figure about middle of the pack also, unless they really gel toward the end of the season. And if stats wise they end up middle of the pack, may be ok. But where I see the difference, is they should not be as gassed at the end of the games. Therefore allowing them to make those stops, not give up those big game ending plays. But if the O produces like they should, the D won't be in those situations as often.

The D stat wise was about the same from 2014 to 2015, where they made their leap was from 2013 to 2104 when the offense was going strong. So IF healthry, but true for all teams, maybe they make that leap from middle to say top 12 because of the better overall talent and depth more so than 2014 and 2105.

That seem logical, but then it's also the NFL...sometimes logic does not apply.....

I want to be optimistic, but Romo will miss enough games to throw us back to the 8-8 area.

I like the pessimism. That's the missing ingredient. Make no mistake that we're as deep and talented today as we've been since 2007. And younger, so we're primed for that next step. God forbid we stay healthy cause we could be real good.

Same optimism as every year. We have one of the elite QBs, and if he stays healthy, and the defense doesn't totally spit the bit, this team will be in the hunt.

For sure should be a good season. I don't see Dallas as a superbowl contender but this should be a fun season to watch.

Zeke will be a blast to watch. We'll hold our breath with Romo. The defense will be better, but how much is a mystery.

I think the Dline will surprise this year. We are one safety away from being a very good defense.

We had a top ten pass defense last season...

I'm sure you know that was a text-book case of a false stat.

Dallas was 31st in scoring offense. That's almost unimaginable in this era.
No need to press the issue by passing more than you have to when you are leading the whole game.
Sure that you know that though..

We are a healthy Romo/team and one break-out of a DL (whether it is Crawford, free agent or rookie) from a serious run.

If anyone isn't optimistic that this should be a good season, you're either trying to be too much of a realist or you're just a negative person. The players from our 12-4 team are back healthy, plus we've upgraded the secondary (Byron Jones), d-line (Thorton, Gregory, Lawrence), our RB rotation (Zeke, D-Mac, Morris), and the starting left guard position (Collins). It's simple... this should be a great season unless catastrophe strikes.
