Is this about to become some type of phenomenon?

I've seen Nintendo's market value jumped 9 billion dollars because of this game.

Can anyone explain why this game is so popular? Seems kinda simple and boring to me.

I have no idea why the game is so popular. I don't get why people would want to go around collecting things.

It's the technology that has so many people buzzing as well.

Evidently Google is scanning people's homes with this technology and will have a map of the inside of your house.

Like Google maps inside your home.

The Pokemon game is just the start of it, supposedly....

ROFL at this.

Like most mobile games, this wasn't created for our entertainment.

did you catch the fact that they didn't actually use that access?

don't care really. but chasing around virtual characters on your phone in the real world is jacked up to me. if you're having fun, have it. but funny how we just take people at their word if we want to believe 'em anyway.

in all seriousness, i doubt they did. the "find" was too quick and the solution out too fast. someone just wasn't paying attention. but imagine what someone *could* sneak onto your phone guised as "the latest craze" and 95% of the people (or more) won't care what permissions it's asking for - just get into into the fad.

as for maps of my home and so forth - wouldn't it be simplier to just see which builder did it and google their house plans off their site if they really cared? ryland. build my home 18 years ago. go to their home plan library and get it.

done.

or....

invent a new game (which actually is ingress with stupid characters on it)
put stupid characters on it so people eat that **** up
make it a semi-technical hide n go seek
and watch it go viral and see how many you can loop in.

again - if i gave a damn about the given fad i'd be sucked in also. i don't really check what permissions they ask for when i install something. i guess i count on malware bytes to find what i'm doing wrong.

it would purely depend on what in-app purchases they have going on. if you can't catch someone, do you buy a hint? do you buy advantages in training these little guys? (you do train them, right? but for what? are there big pokemon battles where you can go outside and wave your pokemon at someone else in spokane and they wave back and you have a poke-air-battle?

i don't know of many games that are going to have people willingly pay up hundreds of $$$ in purchases to justify the jump in price. esp since it's not even their game really but ingress updated.

in any event, more to watch in our ever changing world.

Bunch of geezers in here, lol.

yep. but then again when i was 20 i'd have laughed at people being idiots for the same reason. not like it's an age thing. to many, it's just stupid. if it were an age thing a co-worker my age would not have gone off on me yesterday when i was poke-mon-making fun of some girl walking down by the canal who almost fell in it looking for things that don't exist.

he was LIVID and later blamed other things for it - but several noticed how upset he got.

over pokemon.

you gonna play pokemon and wander around like a lost zombie screaming "pokeeeeee" vs "brainssssssss" go ahead. but like people who use the word bae others will have their fun with this fad in their own way.

Why not just let people enjoy stuff?

Why not just let people enjoy stuff?

did i tell them to quit it? nope. have at it.

this is how i enjoy things. why not let me? :)

in all honesty i poke fun at a lot of things. its just me. do i honestly care if someone wants to chase things around? not really. it's annoying when you about get run over cause someone dork is chasing a virtual creature into the elevator and isn't paying a lick of attention, but these days if not pokemon they'd be in their phone for some other reason. but how people choose to have fun is up to them.

this is just what i do. why not let me enjoy stuff? :)

The same geezers were told they were wasting time indoors playing their Atari 2600s. I know my parents did.

Probably back in caveman days older generations were criticizing the younger generation.

I personally don't find the game all that compelling, but the people playing seem to be having a great time and it's getting people outdoors and exploring their cities. Not much harm in that.
