So wilbur is the Nick Hayden of the LBer Corp.

Hayden literally did nothing well. That isn't hyperbole. He couldn't anchor, get off blocks, or rush.

Wilber is certainly limited because he doesn't run very well. OTOH he does have some snap to him. He is really good at the jam and he can stack and shed as well as tackle pretty well.

I'm not going to tell you he is better than average but if he is the worst defender on your defense particularly as a 2 down player that isn't bad. The issue is when you combine him with terrible S, lackluster LB and Velcro Hayden.

I disagree with him there, too. But we have neglected the position.

We've drafted a 8 LB in the last 5 years and at least 1 each year. All but 3 are still on the squad. We signed Gachkar and McClain in that time as well. Lee is a holdover.

Durant was a guy we didn't really want to lose last season. Bringing him back after McClain earned himself another suspension isn't an indictment of anything. He can actually play.

Not a fan of our defense at all, but mostly that's because both S positions need upgrading and the DL rotation is short (or maybe we're developing, but really I think we're short) two significant playmakers. The LBs have been pretty solid, except that McClain is not reliable and it's a position where injuries happen and we've got a couple young guys developing who need reps.

Had DeVonte Holloman not been injured, he'd be another player we'd probably be talking about right now as a genuine contributor in that position group. The problem hasn't been the drafting (you can always draft better, but we've drafted OK at LB here under Garrett/Eberflus). The problem was relying on an unreliable starter with substance abuse issues because Jerry Jones likes the idea of picking up pro bowlers at white elephant sales.

I think FS is fine with Jones, no upgrade there but yes SS needs upgrade.

I'm no fortune teller but believe Durant will end up as a backup for Dallas unless one of the young starters is injured or otherwise unavailable.

It's more about him refusing to admit that Hitchens has talent than anything else.
He is weirdly firmly entrenched on his Hitchens position. It's kind of weird. Hitch does done everything and more you can ask for a LB drafted in the 4th. I think he is further along than Bradie James was at the same point in his career, and he is much more athletic.

The fact we had to bring back Durant illustrates how bad of a job we've done at LB over recent years.

When you trust Lee's glass like body and Rolando's pea size brain ......... this is what happens.

Add to the fact that this coaching staff could not get production even if they drafted the next LT, Singletary, or Ray Lewis.

I'm not sure that drafting hasn't been at least a part of the problem. They've got one quality starter at linebacker since 2010, Sean Lee. And as good as he obviously is, the injury issues are a big deal.

I hope that one of the candidates can step up.

Since 2010 ....... 96 regular season games .......Sean Lee started 46 of them.

So even the best we got has started less than half the games we have played since he was drafted.

It depends how you consider guys like Carter, Hitchens, and even Wilber, I guess. I'd say they're decent players, anyway. But you're right that none of them are exceptional players.

I really like this move. Durant knows the defense and did well playing in it. Of course injury issues with Durant is a concern but I think he will be a big help in an area I think help is needed.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Contract Deets:

Much better deal when you compare it to a similar player in Jasper Brinkley who they signed for two years, $6.2 million with $2 million guaranteed. For just a few weeks prior to the season starting last season, he got his $1.25 million signing bonus and $750,000 of his $1 million base salary fully guaranteed

Yeah, it's very subjective. But then again, what isn't, right?
