Jerry Jones: Cowboys coaches lobbied to keep Rolando McClain on the team

Jerry Jones said that support for Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain remained at the start of the offseason, even as he was missing early workouts.

In an interview with 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones said that the coaching staff lobbied to keep McClain around this offseason.

"Everybody lobbied to have McClain on the team. Every coach that's associated with the team lobbied for that," Jones said. "To be fair to everybody concerned, we didn't know that he was going to get suspended. But his issues were potentially recognized, maybe not to the extent that he would lose the games that he got in this suspension."

This line puzzles me, but it is classic Jerry Jones gibberish:

"Potentially recognized"?

This issue needs to be sidelined until he can return. The thread topics are starting to look like craigslist ads.

We have 18 threads about McClain in a row.
If you look at craigslist, you see 35 ads in a row wanting Uber drivers...or ads wanting iphones....

That whole paragraph. He is really reaching for any justification for his continuous fandom of Rolando, after the fact.

I mean, it comes across as desperate.

Didn't see the last line the first time. They're keeping McClain because they don't want the "cap hit". Sounds like a good excuse to take the decision out of the coach's hands.

I don't believe a damn thing that comes out of his botox riddled mouth.

Jason I want McClain on the team how do you feel about it?

I don't know Jerry how should I feel about it?

You and all the coaches should be happy to have him on our team.

Jerry I know I can speak for all the coaches we desperately want him on the team. Please find us another scumbag to disrupt our team.

I felt better when he just told me they weren't making a move due to salary cap matters.

At least that I could somewhat believe...

I trust Jones about as far as I could throw him anymore.

The way they presented this is misleading ..

The way Jerry explained it, all of the Coaches were on board with resigning McClain BEFORE the suspension, which made sense given the middle linebacker situation. The title makes it sound like all the coaches wanted to keep him after the suspension.

What I want to know now is how many coaches not named Jerry still want to keep him now knowing he's suspended 10 games and that he will have to go months without another violation just to play at least 6 games this season.

And it will take at least 3 of those 6 games for him to get in shape. If Dallas is good enough to make the playoffs, that means they will have done it without his help for 13 weeks.

Cut him.

With the suspension, his cap cost has gone way down. I would hold on to him just in case you need him down the stretch due to injuries. If week 11 gets here and he is out of football shape and you are set at LBer for the stretch, cut him. Seems an easy no brainier to me unless you need his cap dollars now to improve the team for the whole season. If not, wait it out and gauge the situation when he is eligible to come back. We just may be in a situation where we a extremely happy to get him back.
