I think the sky is the limit for Irving. Last year as a rookie he showed flashes i expect to see the jump from him

Im not sure if he is a pass rusher though, and if he becomes one I believe you are looking at a couple years down the line. Still very raw as a pass rusher.

Where he could make his mark on this defense this year is as a run defender, and maybe a better word would be disruptor. He has the physical ability and has shown a knack in a small sample size to blow throw running lanes and blow up plays in the back field.

He reminds me of a young Cullen Jenkins, who showed that ability as a 2 down run defender at DE in GB's 4-3 platooning with KGB. He refined his pass rush skills over a few seasons and wound up becoming a very effective inside pass rusher

Last year he didn't get the luxury of being in our system or getting a training camp with us, because we plucked him off KC practice squad. Its true he does need to develop more pass rush moves but man His physical build is scary. He is 6"7 can bat the balls down, and I can see Marinelli getting the most out of him. If not 9 sacks at least 5-6 this year would be great to see from an undrafted 2nd year player

Lawrence still manages to finish with 9 sacks in 12 games and leads the team.

I wish there was a button that said "hope this isn't the case" instead of "like". However, I can see that.I just hope it's not a player over 26 years old. I am sick of retreads on a defense that is at least 2 years or more away with the overall lack of talent (available talent) and depth. I just wish I had the answers. Better drafting in the mid and later rounds, better UDFA and timely Free Agents would be a start. I'm afraid that fans, and even the Cowboys leadership will want the likes of Freeney. I just think that is wrong on many levels. You will only get a year out of him and will not develop or rule out younger talent. It's not like Freeney is Charles Haley (the one player needed for a Super Bowl run).

Freeney actually has more career sacks than Haley did, so there's that.

And "a year" of Freeney is better for this team than what they currently have or don't have. Any player he could push off the roster doesn't deserve to be here anyway.

What I am hoping for is getting consistent pressure and getting 3 or 4 guys with 7 to 8 sacks and guys like Gregory and Lawrence coming on strong late in the season for the final push. Right now I don't see a Ware type pass rusher, a guy who will give you 17 sacks but if you can get a decent number of sacks coming from more than 1 player it can make a big impact.

I agree and I think that's what we have to hope for at this point. A numbers game.

Freeney could be like Jeffcoat on this team. He is proven sack producer unlike all the guys on current roster who are pure projections.

Definitely! It's not our money, JJ is too stubborn to admit defeat back to back years @ DE (two 2nds/one 3rd rd pick to acquire) due to these suspensions. How could it hurt @ all?

Money? Money was the cause for directions followed...but who's crystal ball wouldn't have cracked with both Tony Romo and Dez Bryant out for almost an entire season?

Team effort this year. Total sacks more important than individual totals.

Figure if we have the cap room and doesn't interfere with resigning Frederick than see no harm. Could help late in the year as well as the first four games, etc. He's not Hardy in the headcase dept. and gives us a vet presence; could teach Gregory, Tapper, Mayowa a trick or two.
