NFL going ahead with Investigation into Zeke

If that woman is lying Zeke needs to sue the living crap out of her. So she needs to get a real job like everyone else? Oh poor baby.

This, in a big way.
There must be repercussions for this stuff on both sides.

Serious question: What could they possibly investigate?

There is the police report they can review, yes.

Would the NFL go interview the woman in question, the witnesses to the incident? Will they ask to review Zeke's text messages?

Tying to get my mind around how intense they are able to investigate.

Exactly, and what gives them the right to interview these persons for an investigation, if no charges were filed. And if they were, what still gives them the right. The NFL is not the law enforcement, though they act like they are.

I read an article the other day to the effect that some NFL owners are getting very weary of Goodell's heavy-handed ways. If this continues on the league office's part, it wouldn't be too surprising if his ouster as commissioner eventually follows . . . just passing it on.

Let's hope so, it will be a good day for the NFL...even better if Blandino goes with him....

Yeah, I'd tell the NFL I gave my statement to the police, you can get it from them, thanks for calling.click

Great fire him and bring in Condoleezza Rice to replace him.

This is the main problem with the recent heavy handed discipline by the NFL especially towards domestic violence. I said it a year ago when they announced the new harsher punishment for DV that Goodell just made every player in the NFL subject to blackmail from any female they may ever have a relationship with. The NFL should not be investigating anything here. There is a legal system for these matters and until said legal system determines the player broke the law, the NFL should stay out of it. That does not mean I want to go easy on real DV cases. I simply think the NFL should let the legal system work and punish accordingly. Until charges are brought, the NFL should have no response. Until a guilty verdict is rendered, the NFL should impose no punishment. They have unwittingly undermined their players and given the upper hand to every female dating or married to a player and there is nothing the players can do except hope their girl never tries to ruin them.

Agree 100 percent. If this was anyone else other than the Cowboys 4th overall pick, i dont see it getting this far. Especially with the evidence Zeke has.

I don't know if I would go that far. I mean, weren't the Ray Rice charges dropped? That dude most definitely needed a time out.

I never understand this "NFL is conducting its independent investigation...what the heck do they know about investigating? Does it mean they wait for the police report to come out and read it, maybe look at witness testimonies?

The police are trained to investigate, and they are not looking to let anyone off the hook. Once the police say it's nothing, I don't understand why the NFL doesn't just go with that.

Of course they are.....Are you really surprised?

I wouldn't be shocked if he got suspended for the first 2 games of the season. That's just how the NFL rolls. You give the league a black eye...your gonna pay...guilty or not.

Not saying it's right....

But old Roger likes to play judge, jury and executioner.

All they care about is that the public sees them doing something to make sure it wasn't the player doing wrong. I'm sure they know he didn't do anything... But they have to keep up public perception.

The NFLPA will have a field day getting revenge on Goodell if he oversteps on this investigation. If he hands down discipline when the police aren't pursuing charges, Zeke will file an appeal and this thing turns into an even bigger clustercuss than deflate gate.

Charges aren't necessary for Goodell to hand out punishment.

The policy states: If you are convicted of a crime or subject to a disposition of a criminal proceeding, you are subject to discipline. But even if your conduct does not result in a criminal conviction, if the league finds that you have engaged in conduct [prohibited by the policy], you will be subject to discipline."

With domestic violence being an area of emphasis for the league right now, there was no doubt that this would be investigated and Elliott better be squeaky clean or the league can punish him. The league knows that it handled the Ray Rice incident poorly and has been trying to go out of its way not to do that again. (Its attempt to suspend Hardy for more games than allowed is an example of that.)

In a way, domestic violence is the worst thing that Elliott could be accused of right now, so he better be squeaky clean.

That case could be the exception because it was caught on video and everyone saw exactly what happened. I think discipline could still be forthcoming for conduct detrimental to the league but if all charges are dropped then the NFL should not be punishing for the specific crime that the law did not convict for.

Nfl needs to stick to football matters suspensions and leave the law enforcement to the police and detectives.

The Police are done investigating but the NFL is just beginning...something is seriously wrong with that

The Police didn't even arrest or charge EE and passed the buck to the Prosecutor's Office

They have already proven that you can be accused, found innocent, and be punished.

Prediction: NFL Head of Officiating Dean Blandino spends four days and $30,000 at the club where Zeke's accuser works, then announces a four game suspension .

I would not doubt that at all. Like a lot of posters here, I have no problem with the NFL or anyone else investigating. If E is innocent nothing exists to convict him, in a court of law or a court of clowns. But the focus that's on domestic violence right now (and rightly so) and Goodell's pattern of scattershot justice makes me nervous. Regardless of the truth, anything can happen. Normally I don't ascribe these things to conspiracy, but the Cowboys are the most visible sports franchise in the world and Goodell doesn't want another Ray Rice debacle.

The prosecution is done too unless the girl persues things further. (per Mike&Mike this morn)

The burden of proof is "more reasonable than not", I believe, and the league office determines the reasonableness.

I could easily see Goodell sticking it to the Cowboys. You need to look no further than the salary cap penalty to see they don't have to be anywhere close to reasonable.
