Dallas Cowboys vs. L.A. Rams: What to watch for
http://thelandryhat.com/2016/08/12/dallas-cowboys-la-rams-watch-for/

How Does UDFA Andy Jones Perform?
The Cowboys are pretty set at the receiver position, but if you have a chance to add a talented rookie without spending a draft pick, you do it.

University of Jacksonville’s Andy Jones wasn’t invited to the NFL combine, but did attend the University of Florida pro day. And he was impressive. Jones has the potential to make this 53-man roster his rookie season, but a solid performance tomorrow night would be beneficial to that goal.

The quarterback play is going to be spotty, and we’ll get to that soon, but Jones should get plenty of opportunities to shine this preseason, and if he performs well enough he could carve out a role on this team in the future.

Cowboys Debut of Alfred Morris (Probably)

This was a match made in heaven. Morris was a tremendous addition for this team even before the drafting of Ezekiel Elliott. The rookie has a bum hamstring at the moment, so it’s unlikely he makes his NFL debut in Los Angeles. However, Alfred Morris should perform well enough to inspire confidence in Cowboy fans heading into the season.

Morris excelled in Washington under the same zone-blocking scheme that the Cowboys currently employ. He would have been a perfectly serviceable starter heading into the season, which means he should be one of the best change of pace backs in the NFL. It will be fun to get a taste of Morris behind the best offensive line in football, even if he only plays a series or two.

Dak Prescott vs Jameill Showers
The backup quarterback position was exposed during the Cowboys disastrous 2015 season. When Kellen Moore went down with a broken ankle, fans’ already low expectations for the backup QB position somehow went lower.

After a few days of trade rumors, it appears the team is going to try to see what the young guys have. They will likely split plays 50/50 tomorrow, which will make the entire game worth watching.

Whether one of them wins the number two job or they find another signal caller elsewhere, hopefully this preseason is the only time we see a quarterback not named Romo on the field in 2016.

6th Round Pick Performance
The Cowboys had four picks in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, those picks turned into CB Anthony Brown, S Kevon Frazier, RB Darius Jackson, and TE Rico Gathers. It is entirely possible we see three of the four on the 53-man roster when September rolls around.

All four should play significant time tomorrow night, and while some are more set up to succeed than others, all four should look to perform their best to impress the coaching staff.

Starting with Brown, who I believe could be the steal of the draft. Brown was pegged as a fourth round talent, who fell to the sixth for some reason. He’s on a team that is starving for secondary help, and he has the size and speed to make an impact.

Frazier has the benefit of playing safety on a team that could use help at the position. He also has shown the ability to play special teams, which always endears bubble players to the coaching staff. This game is an opportunity to Frazier to show how he plays as an in the box safety, which would only help his cause when roster cuts roll around.

Darius Jackson is an intriguing pick. The Cowboys have Elliott and Morris currently on the roster, as well as last year’s starter Darren McFadden and receiving back Lance Dunbar. Jackson has turned some heads in camp, but will likely need McFadden to be moved to make room on the depth chart. But tomorrow night Elliott, Dunbar, and McFadden will be on the sideline. So Jackson will have plenty of time to show what he can bring to the backfield.

I wonder if it changes anything if Showers goes out there and goes 12 of 15 for 150 and 2 TDs and no picks. More to the point, if he plays great throughout the entire preseason... Then do you trust him to be the #2? Honestly, it's what I want to see happen. I don't want to have to sign a veteran and I don't want Dak to have to be the #2.

Can't believe we are rolling into another season with a majority of our safety depth being Church, Wilcox and Heath. Holy hell.

I bet it will be like previous years when Dak and Showers play, no scoring and lots of 3 and outs. We've had so many bad backups that just can't put together a damn drive.

Please explain what one should be expecting with not many real starters are playing much until week three? The new arrivals shouldn't be expected to carry a dominant from the start...from where I sit.

I realize it's only the first preseason game and all teams have very vanilla schemes but Dallas is notorious for being absolutely boring to watch in early August.

I agree with most of your 53 but I believe Jackson and Frazier both make the team. I also could see Wood and Coe fighting over that last spot at DT. Also I believe either Rod or Keith make it at FB

a lot of that i think has been due to poor line play from the second and third teams. The tackles we have run out there in recent years have sabotaged the backup units abilities.

I expect more of the same tomorrow night. I fully expect gregg williams to blitz and i fully expect it to cause all kinds of problems.

can't wait to see all the cowboy fans in the stands though for the rams big debut.

Who I'm keying in on:

David Irving & Mike McAdoo
Claiborne - how does he look against a different team's first stringers
Darius Jackson - although not sure how much you can take away from his performance since I'm sure he'll be behind the 2nd / 3rd string O-line most of the night
Andy Jones
Byron Jones at safety
Dak & Jameill (obviously)

Dude......

Hard Knocks showed that Cal-Berkley QB and first overall pick DIDN'T KNOW THE SUN RISES IN THE EAST.

Think they'd like another shot at Wentz?

Kids learn crapola in some schools.

Plus, he's a Taylor Swift fan. Good gawd.
