I hope I am not overstepping my bounds promoting this here but Reality's new site, PUNNDITS.com is amazing!! If you like to express your political leanings in a safe envirionment, please come join.

Note: Please do not post your political thoughts here!

Mods: I hope I am not overstepping my bounds since I am promoting one of Reality's sites and he actually advertises it here.

It's a mess over there.
Political discussion tends to always be a mess (which is why it's not allowed her), but that place is extra awful. Needs some moderation imo. A ton of 1 note posters who just post to antagonize, without ever actually discussing anything. On both sides.

Some similarities to this forum and some differences...

The moderation of that forum IS NOT like the moderation of this forum.

Politics is at an even higher emotional level than sports for many.

Thus we allow a little more scuffling along the boards.

But we still do not allow personal insults.

However if anyone does feel a post is out of bounds on that forum they can simply report it.

Go over and check it out! http://punndits.com

Discussing politics can be fun and entertaining (I've also learned a thing or two over there)... but it's not for the squeamish. :)

I understand. And I like the idea of having a political discussion forum. It's new and it might just need to find it's feet. But right now it feels like most of the threads amount to not much more than "No, you're wrong" 1 liners (worded many different ways), without any actual counter discussion to what most people post, and a lot of it is from the same small handful of people in every thread, who's main goal seems to simply be to annoy people actually trying to discuss things, or take quick jabs at "The other team". Just wish people like that would get mod smacked.

Yes, I am, but I'll keep my views to myself. I've wasted way too much time arguing with people on Facebook. I end up not getting **** done.

And then you have me...which confuses people lol

I have to stay away from politics. It gets me too mad. I've even fought with friends over it. I need something calm to talk about like the Cowboys. lol

Politics is entertainment just like sports, if any of it was important then stuff would get done, but nothing really ever gets done except for a few meaningless civil actions which doesn't really change anything. Cash rules don't forget it.

I like it. I was on Reddit for the past year on all of the candidates' subreddits daily. Those subreddits are just a bunch of jock riding and memes. And when there is a good news story, you can't have an actual discussion on it because only the mindless ("BURN!!!", "****!!!", "RACIST!!!") posts make it to the top. Punndits has a good mix of people with different opinions and there is a good bit of meaningful discussion. It has been getting a little out of hand lately with a few people trolling the opposite side. I really enjoyed it early on when you could create a thread called How Do You Feel About X? and you'd get a lot of good and varied responses. Hopefully it goes back to that and doesn't turn into just another subreddit.

I am very politically minded. I should have been a conservative talk show host. But I am already in several Facebook debate groups and that takes up far to much time as it is.

That's life. That's especially sports and politics.

Agreed.
As I have learned simply from posting there. I've learned dem and repub stuff.

Come on and join. Even if you don't post much, you can contribute as time permits. If you visit, I think you will like the site. Give it a try.

Agreed. NOW, more than any other time in history. It's a hot time/topic.

I enjoy the site, and I'm very political minded. But I'm also smart enough to know I won't change anyone's mind through a message board on the Internet. I lurk almost exclusively. I'm at a disadvantage when I try to project my thoughts (which are always correct BTW :) ) to paper. I enjoy when people are able to articulate their thoughts without going to insults, and this includes opinions I don't agree with. I've been around long enough on this site to see multiple versions of the political board. So Punndits is rather lame; especially when you consider the POTUS election is right around the corner and the two candidates are the most hated in history.

It's a good forum with very good people on it and you can learn a lot from both sides.

The problem has been, here in the last couple of weeks, is that they've started to get posters who are not there for quality discussion. They are not there to debate or put up some quality, thought out, opinions and posts. They're only there to say stupid crap, act like sophomore morons, and start arguments.

It's derailing a lot of the discussions and quickly making the place less and less useful and informative.

I love the idea of getting opinions and ideas and thoughts from both sides of the spectrum but when it's done in a manner of presenting it as discussion and a differing opinion. When it's done in a fashion that the poster has to feel the need to belittle and talk down to people, as if they're the only ones with valuable opinions or thoughts of merit then it's useless.

Unfortunately we've had a couple of people like that join already and I am sure it will only be followed by more people like that (which are the most useless types of people to speak to) and it will completely kill of any desire to go there.

It's going to take moderating and removing the people who are obviously just trolling the other side and/or just generally bringing nothing but hatred or stupidity to the discussions.

Unfortunately I have my doubts as to whether or not this will actually be moderated and corrected. A little more time will tell.

We have a plan, but we are waiting a little before we implement it.
