Nope pull out the old HD swap in the adapter and pop the cover on. The only issue is If you use an big USB drive you need to format in FAT. Databank has a bunch of decent instructions.
Grab a 4TB SSHD, with all the new games putting so much on HD 2 TB will fill pretty fast if he gets a lot of games.
I'll do this sooner than later; more triflin/laziness on my part. I do prefer my PS and still press the wrong buttons on X1 after 2 years w/the PS4 controller format. At Least half of my picks come from that. Don't get me wrong; BLOODBORNE, Fallout 4, Witcher, Dragon Age, Dark Souls 3, Doom and most top AAA games are on my PS4 so would rather have gone this route w/Madden too (impulse decision on checkout w/Amazon for the prime savings) initially and only keep the X1 for random exclusives (the few they get; GOW and Killer Instinct) and BC. Destiny "feels" like Halo w/o the story which is meh anyway.

I tend to stick to offline Franchise Mode w/All Madden adjusted sliders. I can win online, but usually have to use like 3 cheese plays all game on O and Zones (Cover 2/3/4/6 on D). Blitzes seem to have to rely on two defenders coming from one side of the formation while motioning your DL to the opposite side in QB spy while using zone and controlling the LB in coverage. All the pre snap adjustments get tedious as well.
Try to read the Safeties post snap and motion pre snap to get an idea of their coverage for man or zone. Post snap, if one of the S drifts to one side, you have a 1 on 1 outside on the opposing side. If I see one deep S I sometimes streak both outside WRs and simply throw a deep loft to the outside of whichever receiver the S doesn't commit to and just Y (triangle on PS) until the completion is contested or X (square on PS) if it looks I can catch and run. If the D is in man, try use crossing routes and wait for your receiver to get separation before throwing in front of him. Also, if in man, Witten will destroy any LB on an out/slant/seam route but be sure he clears the MLB on slants; you can also slant Dez inside if he's one on one but again beware of them darn LBs. Don't be scared to run outside and don't touch the speed button until your lineman have made contact when you're running the ball.
