What Dungy said is true, but.......it's not like it used to be. Roethlisberger had early success. So did Wilson. Others have done reasonably well.

This situation is ideal for Prescott because he has a tremendous amount of talent around him. That's not normally the case. I don't expect him to light it up, but I do think he'll do fine, and I do think Dallas wins this game on Sunday.

Yeah, rookie quarterbacks never win ...
  • Andrew Luck rookie season .. Colts .. 11 wins, 5 losses
  • RGIII rookie season .. Commanders .. 10 wins, 6 losses
  • Mark Sanchez rookie season .. Jets .. 9 wins, 7 losses
  • Colin Kaepernick rookie season .. 49ers .. 13 wins, 3 losses
  • Russell Wilson rookie season .. Seahawks .. 11 wins, 5 losses
Didn't Big Ben go undefeated as a rookie?

I think T. Will is the sleeper to have a big day because of this.

Dak will be looking for single coverage and T. Will is going to get and he can beat single coverage down field.

I wouldn't be surprised if he catches 4 or 5 passes and has close to 100 yards and a touchdown.

I think contract year T. Will could have a big year. He's got the talent.

I was thinking we'd see Dak try to get Butler behind the coverage a few times and see how they handle it, but it's basically the same idea. If the OL gives him time, he'll have his opportunities. I'm more worried about the NY coverages than I am their pressure.

I expect our run game to take them out of the coverages they want to use.

3rd and long is when we need to be worried. I don't think Dak will make a mistake on first or 2nd down.

Dak's success may depend on Beasley on the underneath stuff. If Beas can get open and move the chains, Dungy's strategy falls apart.

That's going to be the nut of the game, isn't it? If we can work the running game, they're going to have a tough time. If they slow it down, then it's on Dak's arms and legs. Which Dak might be able to pull off, now. But it'd be much better if we can run it strength on strength.

I'm curious to see if they can stop Elliott on the perimeter runs. He gets out there so fast, and we do such a good job of getting linemen downfield and with the receivers blocking in the secondary. If we can do that steadily enough the new DTs won't matter all that much until later in the game when we've worn them down anyway.

Or Elliott, or Dunbar. Yeah, if you have to double Dez and have to worry about a running QB and have to bring a player down to guard against the running game, this offense really opens up. There are too many options to defend properly if the QB has time.

Dungy forgets a simple principal in confrontations...when you start under estimating an opponent, he'll kick your butt.

Planning to beat a rookie quarterback isn't under estimating your opponent.

Pfft beating Quincy Carter as a rookie is not an accomplishment. Dak is not Quincy Carter in any way shape or form. I really lost interest when the article mentioned Quincy.

Dak is not John Elway in any way shape or form. Just saying.

Both Wilson and Ben had stellar defenses.

I respect dungy. I wish he was the Cowboys coach. Good coach. Great leader. His logic is sound, and who am I to argue with his coaching philosophy. He has the skins on the wall and like 30 years experience lol.

With that being said, I really really hope we prove the exception to the general rule that rookie qbs suck in the regular season. Hope we win, and win big. But I've been let down so many times, my heart can't take it any more. Pleeeeeease win.

I like Dungy as well and agree with what he said. The article points out that if Dak passes 20 times or less the odds are in our favor. I think that is about the right number of pass plays we should try. My point is when do we call them, call some in obvious run situations and not all on obvious pass downs. We can't hand it off every 1st down. Pick our spots, run some Option plays, ... We can do screen plays, shuttle passes .... keep the Giants guessing.

This isn't about that. It's about how rookie QBs have played recently.

But they played well. So did Matt Ryan.

They played well because they had a defense that complemented a heavy run-based offense.

If your defense isn't putting your offense in a scoring hole, you can run a more conservative offense. If your defense - like ours last year - is giving up long drives and touchdowns, that puts you into a passing offense, and that likely doesn't benefit a rookie quarterback.

Look, I'm hoping Dak defies the odds. But usually rookies fair better when they play in a conservative offense and the defense is stellar.

Just watch. I've got a peaceful, easy feeling about Dak. This offense and personnel fits him perfectly to play well now, although I want Romo back for this year.

Fair enough. The seeing is in the waiting. :)
