Shaking up the D line & Changes at LB

Looks like T Crawford moving to DE, J Crawford starting over Mayowa with McClain & Collins starting @ DT.

Hitchens being replaced by Durant.

Would also like to see what Davis can do at end.

I asked all off season long why everyone was so excited about a career 3rd teamer coming in to be our starter. I wondered why they thought this guy was any good. So good in fact, that two teams, including one coached by Pete Carol would let him go so easily...

"He is solid and Benson can come in and give us some juice where we take him out of some of the heavy pounding," Marinelli said. "You get Jack over there and it's another big man on base. Then we just roll them after that."

McClain, who is off to a strong start, remains the starter at one defensive tackle spot. Collins, who is tied for the team lead in quarterback pressures with three, is poised to take over the other tackle position.

"Explosive pad level," Marinelli said of Collins. "He's got quickness, suddenness, tough."

Thornton and Mayowa combined have a cap hit less than Barry Church or Scandrick this year. They weren't "prized FA", they were always role players.
were they not penciled in as our starters?

Glad to see Hitchens is being drummed down the depth chart.

He has been barely mediocre and sometimes awful since his rookie season.
Yes and I wonder why.

His rookie year was so promising..

thought we had scored with him.

Not so much now.

This actually is a bad trend with our defensive players. For some reason, several players look very promising their first year, only to get worse.

Bruce Carter looked like a stud his first year prompting the "Bruce Lee" nickname. Wilcox had his best year as a rookie. Tyler Patmon looked like a ball hawking CB we've been waiting for in his rookie year. Hitchens looked like a great value pick. T. Crawford has gotten worse too.

Two are gone and Wilcox will probably join them soon. Hitchens has been terrible and T. Crawford has been a non factor this year.

Yes..

It's clear there is something amiss..

Is it the schemes or the defensive coaching?

I'm losing trust in Marinelli.

After 3 years almost..very little player development.

I realize about the suspensions and injuries to the front liners.

But as you say..newcomers who start well quickly fade.

Not good.

So the lineup Sunday sounds like Crawfords on the ends with Collins and McLain. Sounds like a decent run stopping unit.
Doesn't Jack have two sacks in two games? Ain't bad, he deserves the clock.

Was Hitchens at WLB his rookie year?
McClain was at MLB.

Maybe Hitchens is purely a WLB, albeit a limited one.

Whackest Dline in football...Mayowa had all this hype, he just lost starting to JCraw lol

I thought Carter was playing his best ball his last year with us.

Well, neither is what we have at DT. Teams are running right at him. I don't get where people think he is a plus player at the very vital 3T position.

The injury excuse from last year is gone and through a couple of games, he seems like he can be more productive when he does not face as many double teams. He is just not nearly as talented as everyone thought.

The contract extension looks like a horrible mistake at this point. Paying Warren Sapp, getting Tyrone Crapp...
