I don't believe a team owes any player anything. When you're rolling like they are right now don't change a thing. You can always go back to Romo if this falls apart.
I agree but it doesn't sound like we'd wait until it falls apart . More like they're waiting on one poor performance or loss to bring Romo back.

You mean the Romo evaluation is not complete??????
My goodness, matey, Romo is old. He is fragile. He is prone to making bad decisions when he scrambles. 11 years as QB. Two career playoff wins. Back and shoulder and ribs and collarbone issues.
There, a free evaluation.
Dak! Get in there and win one for your ruffian fans!!!
Your not for one final knockout to put the issue to rest for everyone ?

Many fans can't move on until they know or see Romo will not be returning.

Jerry's got an interesting dilemma for sure, and I certainly hope they are weighing this properly.

I don't want to see Dak get replaced because of a bad game. That sends a message that he lost it by performance, and that's just not true. I don't want him thinking he messed up. I want him knowing he's just in training for a much bigger role soon.

Obviously, you can't replace him if they're just rolling along and he's playing great. But tough times lie ahead for sure. It's got to be done right, and with clear communication throughout.

You can see defenses slowly starting to figure him out a bit. Or more specifically, they're figuring out how Linehan is calling games with Prescott. If the offense gets slugglish, THAT is the best reason to make a change. To throw the league a major changeup right when they're getting Dallas zeroed in.

By next season, I have no doubt that Dak will have added new dimensions to his understanding of the offense and pro game. Romo knows that, and I'm pretty sure Dak knows it, too.

Erod,

I think I need to disagree here. I don't think it sends that message at all, if anything they are telling Dak look you've done a great job (the team knows this), but sit back and watch Romo now. He hasn't had the opportunity yet. I think if he has a bad game or 2 it's because he has hit the proverbial rookie wall so to speak. It isn't like Romo is some scrub that they are waiting for Dak to screw up to insert into the lineup. He is a bonafide franchise QB with multiple PB appearances and a top passer in the league. I think, if you don't put him in you are sending a message to the team that Daks development is more important then winning at that point. But that is JMO.

Great point !! I agree.

The Romo faithful don't want to bring Romo back now because of the pressure on him to perform immediately. They'd rather wait for Dak to flounder then let Romo save the day plus less pressure.

That's exactly the opposite of what I said. I don't want this to be a situation where Dak has a bad game and gets benched. I'd rather he play mediocre in a win and transition to Romo based on experience alone.

In the meantime, never mess with a streak. That goes for every sport.

I won't argue that putting Romo back in will increase the opportunities for big plays in the passing game that aren't happening as often with Prescott.

But nobody should argue that there will be more chances of turnovers as well.

And nobody should argue that the running game will be different with Romo in compared to Dak. Any read option plays - which have repeatedly been working well - are put on the shelf.

In short, there will be both pluses and minuses from a change at quarterback.

Only problem is that Dak has "crashed the party" and WE ARE WINNING..

Are you saying if the Pats had gone 4-0 they wouldn't have brought Brady back?

Rich Eisen: How will this offense actually be in the care of [Tony] Romo that would make this team better? Give me the coach's point of view on that Steve.

Steve Mariucci: If you break down the passing game in general with Dak [Prescott] right now, and he's been very efficient, but efficient at what they're doing. They're throwing the ball quickly. They're throwing the ball short and intermediate. He's on the move where you narrow the field down to half and it's higher percentages and lower risk. He can protect himself and the ball when he leaves the pocket. There's some really good things that are going on.

They don't attempt to throw the ball down the
field much at all. Tony would give them that part of the playbook that has been limited recently.

That part of the play book where we get sacked or he throws a pick you mean? Or fumbles the ball after getting mildly touched by a defender?

I'd rather be deserted on Gilligans Island with Maryanne.

All kidding aside. I'm not even sure Romo needs to be a 100% to provide a better opportunity for us. But I do agree Dak might eventually provide a better opportunity. Very tough to measure except in the final results.

I still think Jerry is going to screw it up and that might be going with public opinion wave instead of making the tougher decision .

At this point in time there is no mystery with Dak. He is doing it. IF Romo played as well as Dak we would be lucky. Romo is the big mystery at this point. What are the odds that the old man comes back and is playing THIS good?

I've been hearing our rushing attack will be stopped for 2 weeks. Yet. It hasn't been.

Yep, all the Romo apologists were chopping at the bit hoping for Dak to get put in his place against Cincy, and then surely it would happen in GB. Dak just keeps making them look foolish.

We won't know until we put Romo back in there.

If Romo isn't up to speed or playing as well as Dak then we pull him out. Seems simple to me instead of waiting for Dak to slip.

I can't believe that all of the Dak supporters and Romo critics don't want to see Romo come back at least for one game and see if he's up to snuff.

If Romo isn't or gets hurt again then we can finally end this debate and move on with the future right now. The Romo era will officially be over. Turn the page and we all can get on the same page.

But until we do this issue is going to linger and fester dividing our fan base.

At the end of the day, I just hope this is a decision based on football and made largely by Garrett and the coaching staff. My fear is it will be driven by Jerry, and fueled by either loyalty to Romo, Romo's contract, or on the flip side, Jerry giving in to media and popular demand and going with Dak since he's the flavor of the month.

Bellicheck made a big-boy decision years ago based on football. If we want to get it right, no matter whether that means Romo or Dak, we've got to make the decision based on that.

What reason is there ever make a change until we lose a game? I would hope that we can at least all agree that until Prescott actually loses a game we need to stick with what is working correct?

At this point, a few bitter Romo apologists wanting to prove a point about Romo is inconsequential. I love Romo, but I would never sacrifice what is better for the team. At this point, Dak isnt losing. Againts great teams on the road.

Personally, I agree. I wouldn't mess with a thing until given ample reason to mess with it.

We have a good thing going. I don't want to risk disrupting it because of the chance a change improves it. There's also a chance a 36-year-old, injury-prone QB isn't as good any longer. It's a risk/reward thing where I'm not interested in the risk unless we need to take it on. The reward could be fantastic, but our offense is also doing so well right now that I question how much higher the ceiling would really get.

I dont see this offense playing any better. Its needs a more conservative, leader that makes the right play, not a gun slinger trying to extend plays to find a few bigger ones.

Romo wasnt a big play QB anyway. I think its strange that people complain about it with Dak. Quite frankly, its the ONLY thing left they can complain about. Dak has proven them wrong with every little thing they come up with.
