Wentz is better than Dak in some things at this point

I was reading some of the reports and wanted to share. I am not sure that this has been posted before so the mods can delete if so.

Mike Francesa, WFAN in New York City: Wentz, in what they're asking him to do he's doing it very well. He's accurate with the ball. He's a good passer. He looks the part, he really does. He really looks the part. So there are some things about Prescott that will show you how rough he is around the edges. You like his composure and you like the fact he doesn't rattle. He's still very rough around the edges in some parts at quarterbacking while Wentz is much more polished in what he's doing right now.

Colin Cowherd, FOX Sports 1: [Wentz] is really special. He doesn't have that Cowboy O-line, he doesn't have Ezekiel Elliott, he's got nothing to work with on the outside. I really like him. There was a couple plays [Sunday] when he got sacked from behind and didn't fumble. I think he's a very strong, athletic [and] nimble kid. I think he's good at the line of scrimmage. Both those quarterbacks [Wentz and Prescott] are. But I'll say it again: I like Dak, but boy that ensemble he's playing with. Ezekiel's better than I thought. Tyron Smith, that left tackle; I read a football site like a week ago and they called him like the sixth best tackle. I don't know who the other five are because last night, he's pushing guys around. I think Wentz is a really special player.

Six anonymous NFL personnel members: Before Prescott and Wentz played one another ESPN's Mike Sando polled six NFL personnel members to see who they'd pick between the two rookies. All six voted for Wentz. Here's a short part of Sando's article (which can be read here in its entirety):

All six said they would still take Wentz over Prescott now, but the gap between the two would be much smaller.

"Don't get me wrong, I'd take either one right now, sign a 10-year contract and go," the GM said. "Dak has done nothing wrong. Just the way Wentz goes about his business, he impresses me a lot. Wentz reminds me of Ben Roethlisberger -- a big guy who can stand back there and throw it."

All agreed that Wentz and Prescott seem driven to excel, which can be pivotal for long-term success as long as the player possesses sufficient talent. All agreed that Wentz is more advanced reading through progressions, an area where Prescott is improving. All agreed that Wentz and Prescott possessed the poise and overall makeup to succeed. Longer term, they want to see how both function as passers when forced to win games with their arms. That is always the ultimate test for quarterbacks.

Wentz is very good at what he's asked to do....which is dink and dunk.

Air Yards Per Completion (As of Oct 31 2016, minimum 1000 yards passing)

1. Cam Newton - 8.33
2. Tom Brady - 8.28
3. Carson Palmer - 8.06
4. Matt Ryan - 7.82
5. Andrew Dalton - 7.79
6. Tyrod Taylor - 7.73
7. Jameis Winston - 7.69
8. Dak Prescott - 7.63
9. Kirk Cousins - 7.47
10. Andrew Luck - 7.47
11. Trevor Siemian - 7.30
12. Ryan Fitzpatrick - 7.24
13. Philip Rivers - 7.15
14. Derek Carr - 7.08
15. Marcus Mariota - 7.04
16. Russell Wilson - 6.99
17. Roethlisberger - 6.80
18. Drew Brees - 6.55
19. Brock Osweiler - 6.48
20. Case Keenum - 6.37
21. Ryan Tannehill - 6.27
22. Sam Bradford - 5.81
23. Matthew Stafford - 5.75
24. Aaron Rodgers - 5.72
25. Alex Smith - 5.72
26. Blake Bortles - 5.71
27. Joe Flacco - 5.54
28. Brian Hoyer - 5.37
29. Carson Wentz - 5.35
30. Eli Manning - 5.22

Except for his game against the Browns, he's largely spent the last 6 games dinking, while his targets padded his stats with YAC. Big arm or not, the guy is the next Alex Smith if he stays under that coaching staff.

I'm not altogether that impressed with either of these quarterbacks.

I don't think either are going to be in the Payton Manning class or even the Andrew Luck class.

I do think that if Wentz had the supporting cast that Prescott does that he would obviously be better and no Cowboys fan can legitimately argue otherwise.

I'm not sure if we would trade Morris for Sproles, let alone Ezekiel Elliott.

Not sure if we would trade Williams or Beasley for Jordan Matthews, let alone Dez Bryant.

Would we trade any of our offensive linemen for theirs?

I would trade Escobar for Ertz, but that's about it....

.

So one needs to present an argument to refute your opinion?

I've continually heard nothing but Wentz being the next Andy Luck since the spring, but he's not impressed me. That's my opinion and you can't legitimately argue otherwise.

BTW, Andrew luck is overrated, as well. I'd rather have Stafford or Carr.

I can guarantee you every Cowboys fan here would trade Prescotts defense for Wentzs'

This myth is perpetuated by the press and fans. At this point no one knows who is better.

Especially when you look at the surrounding players and offensive play calling. Doesn't mean i think Dak can be better. But it will take several years of starting for both of them, and still you cannot compare apples to flat tires if their teams are not successful at putting talent around these players.

Maybe why I think the elite arguments about quarterbacks on this board is about as significant as doodling.

Rather than try and get smart (you failed),

Why don't you argue what I asked. Does Dak have a significantly better supporting cast or not? Which elements of the Eagles offense is better than the Cowboys?

I'll wait.

I wouldn't. I don't think much separates our defense from theirs and we have Jaylon Smith and potentially Gregory and even McClain returning... I would take our defense over theirs.

Being drafted into the right situation is half the battle to becoming a good QB. Dak landed in the right place at the right time and is taking advantage of it.

If Dak was drafted by Cleveland, no one would know his name and his career might be finished before it even gets started.

Wentz is towing that line, doesn't seem to be used correctly at this point. He is a good QB but he may not be allowed to flourish in that offense.

Only time will tell who is better and I wouldn't bet on one or the other now. Both have talent but that alone will not define their success.

You know what I find excruciatingly annoying? The never ending excuses for why the cowboys/ Dak are doing well! I don't know if Dak or Wince will be great, I can't recall hearing the media saying, well if Montana didn't have Rice,Taylor, Clark etc. etc. you play with who they put around you. Did Dak have a great game, NO. Was he clutch when it mattered the most, YES!

It really depends what you are arguing. It's unclear. If you're saying wentz would be doing better than he is in philly, yes he'd be doing better. If you're saying he'd be doing better than Dak ....

Carson Flatz is very good at doing what he's asked to do and that is hitting those flats. Pro Bowl quality flat hitter.

Didn't our guy throw 3 very interceptable 2nd half passes that would've "choked the game away"?
Interceptable passes? Haha...
Problem is Wentz has thrown 12 intereceptable balls.
Go ahead and look up that made up stat category.

Our guy has led us from behind to win 2 games where we trailed by double digits. Wentz crapped the bed and couldn't get it done in several games already. Anytime Wentz has had to throw the ball downfield he has failed. Take away the 5 yard 100mph slant and he has crumbled.

That wasn't your argument.

That's opinion. You've made up your mind, El Beasto. Cool, bro. I've made up my mind, too, and Wentz hasn't lived up to his hype...actually the opposite. He's largely been Alex Smith 2.0 in his rookie year.

Your post count suggests that you should understand how opinions/opposing views work, but yet, here we are.

Present an actual case to support your view if you want an argument, otherwise you're doing what 96% of this board does...and that's just state opinions.
