Let's pump the brakes on Irving

Well, he got more snaps because of the absence of Lawrence/Thornton. Maybe he just needs that. Everyone knows the guy hasn't been doing this all season. We won, and he played a big part. No need to pump anything. It's a happy day.

I'm just curious, does anyone know how many snaps he took last night. He was gassed at the end. Rightfully so!!

I'll bet he will get more snaps at left DE going forward. Before last night, most of his snaps came at DT.

My problem with this thread is that it's making too many assumptions.

I, nor any post I've seen suggested that Irving is von miller. Or some other elite DE. Or a elite player at all.

He had a good game. Why does it have to be more then that?

While I agree he dominates the game last night and deserves a lot of credit in the win, his play is too inconsistent for me to anoint him the "Pass Rusher Supreme" just yet.

I hope he builds on this game, especially this time of year. Man it would be awesome if one of the DL, or the whole DL TBH, caught fire right before the playoffs. Irving just hasn't been the consistent threat we need yet. His good games are random right now, but I truly hope he turns the corner.

Not everyone can be an all pro but he can be above average, this guy is separating himself from the herd.

Didn't actually read the thread but let me say I absolutely do not want to pump the brakes on Irving.

The guy is an all time great WR for us, and I love him on the pregame shows, the way he's always maintaining his loyalty to Dallas.

Michael Irving you are the best.

no i'm going to go ahead and keep my foot on the gas, he's looked better than Lawrence has all season.

I just "might" be that Marinelli doesn't have all the pieces in the right places. Lawrence and Gregory have a combined total of 1 sack this year. I'm beginning to wonder if either of them were worth where they were drafted. I for one would welcome Marinelli giving him more snaps...at least in the second half of games. Definitely the highlight of the fourth quarter defense that bent but didn't break.

I don't consider last night's game similar to the GB game, even though he won player of the week. He made some tackles where opposing players put the ball on the grass. Only one of them did I feel Irving truly "caused" the fumble. But it was good production for sure.

Last night was different. He was a monster, completely unblockable. We haven't seen that since Demarcus Ware was here.

I think we're seeing a guy get a little confidence here. It is so difficult to make an NFL roster, I think some of these late round or undrafted guys think that is the pinnacle of their careers, just making a roster. They need a game like this to realize "hey, I can do more than just be in the mix. I can actually be a difference making player." For some guys, you have to do it before you truly believe you can do it.

We might be seeing the emergence of a Calais Campbell type player here.

yea, screw that. i want to get pumped up and excited and i can handle my own emotional toil if irving doesn't wind up being the sole reason for reinventing defensive play.

LDE might be his natural position. He looked like JPP out there. He was playing vs a backup RT last night but I'm happy he took advantage of that. I don't recall Tyrone Crawford dominating at any time this season and for sure he faced backup guys at some point (Minnesota and Philly I can recall from the top of my mind).
