FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is back at The Star Wednesday after spending Tuesday in New York attending a hearing for an appeal of a third suspension, according to sources.

Now the Cowboys and Gregory have to wait for commissioner Roger Goodell to determine the player's fate.

Gregory is looking at a potential year-long suspension for a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy that occurred this season. He was suspended the first four games of the 2016 season for a violation during his rookie season and subsequently suspended another 10 games for missing a test in the offseason.

Gregory and his agent split ties recently but that did not affect the status of his hearing......

So the rumor is that he failed his last test because he was in rehab.

I can not imagine the NFL suspending a player for a year if they were in rehab for their problem.

We don't have all of the details but if that story is true I think the NFL would receive a lot of backlash if they suspended him.

Shortly after returning to the star...witnesses reported him celebrating. Word was there was a strange odor coming from the bathroom and Cypress Hill was heard playing in the background.

Someone on the twitterverse (take it with a grain of salt) and I don't recall who it was...Said something along the lines that the NFL could have sent someone to the rehab facility to do the test.

t was stated by Fish on The Fan this morning that Mr 4th and long told him that the NFL can have a courier regardless of where you are to collect the specimen for screening. If this is true I don't see any way he wins his appeal. Of course this is the NFL we are talking about so there is no telling what the outcome will be

The article says he missed a test during the regular season, while with the team, but not practicing yet. That doesn't bode well for him. Hopefully, he has an excuse like Le'veon Bell who changed his cellphone and the tester called his old number.

Goodell's decision should be within a day or sometime in late February, anything else is unfair to the team.

If it's not late February, then it's not fair to the team. You don't let him come back to play late in the season then suspend him now. Besides, his suspension is for a year - a season. He shouldn't be penalized this year then all of next year. That bridges two seasons.

translation: Goodell has to talk with Mara before a determination can be reached.

They wanted to see if he'd play well or not, before deciding whether we can keep him for the playoffs.
