Cowboys losing Ground? For the Record . reinforces how 2016 was a missed opportunity ***MERGED***

Tell me they are done in free agency, not a single player will improve from last year, and none of the draft picks will amount to anything and I'll concede at this ridiculously early point that Dallas is losing ground. Until someone can show its likely that those things are true, I'll let the rest of free agency, the draft, OTAs, training camp, and the preseason unfold until I make that determination.

New England. Again and again.

I agree that just rummaging through free agency doesn't fix a bad team. It usually leads to nothing. However, for the "win-now teams" like Dallas, a key free agent acquisition or two can be the difference.

Too many holes to fill with just 4-5 meaningful draft picks. They'd better get to work.

Losing Leary hurt. Losing both Church and Wilcox hurt. Paea is a downgrade from McClain. Adding nothing on the edge is concerning.

It's still only March, but right now, this looks like 8-8 all day. Let's see what happens.

and you are correct, lets see what happens with held breath. There is a good chance something can change the season. We still have a draft to see what happens.

What are you even talking about? New England is generally quiet during free agency, hence the amount of cap room they have. You threw out the "8-8" crap last season and it's getting old.

Everybody is scared of Alshon Jefferey / Torrey Smith ... Brandon Marshall ... Terrelle Pryor??? Come on man.

The Giants made Shepard a very useful asset. The Eagles will usually find success with a TE or WR, barring a few years. So yes, there is at least evidence that these teams do produce something.

we can get better on defense i dont mind rebuilding the defense..... We need more instinctive Playmakers on Defense not more solid players.... Actual difference makers, staying as the same as these past couple yrs to me is getting same results great effort but no game changers has developed

time to get new younger faces and draft in my opinion

I'm not panicking over the Cowboys tepid Free-agency maneuvers.
But, while other teams were trying to sure up their weak spots and improve their strong spots, we may have weakened our weak spot, Defense, and also weakened our strong spot, Offense.
At best, it seems that we are holding pat and hoping that we can replicate last years success.
The players we signed in FA on defense aren't great improvements over their predecessors, but are just replacements with the hope that they can basically provide the same production.
In addition, there hasn't been anything that has happened to think that the Defense Achilles heal, Pass Rush DE, has been addressed/improved.
On offense, losing Leary and Free is not anything to brush over and could effect the chances of the offense repeating last year's success. Collins is still not proven and Green hasn't shown he can be relied on as a replacement at RT.
Many of he top NFC teams last year, e.g. Packers, Seahawks, Giants, Arizona, had injury issues last year that hindered their chances but if they address them and have some luck on the injury front, they can be in good position to have greater success.
There's no reason to panic at this point but it's obvious that it will be a tough task for this team to replicate last years success. Not impossible, but it will be a tough task.

You just have to marvel at the patriots and how they manipulate and get what they want. The Cowboys it seems dont even have the creativity to try trading. Last time they trade was when? When Jimmy Johnson was here?

The Patriots gather talent via:

-The Draft
-Free Agency
-Trades

And the Cowboys it seems only acquire talent through one source:

-The Draft

Just cant keep up. Unless we keep nailing the draft this team will be right back where they were. Middle of the road trying to catch up.

Have lost defensive depth for sure, but not ready to concede Dallas has taken a step backwards. They've lost a bunch of average to slightly above and added the same back. Got to get further along in off season before getting too worried about it. A lot can over next 1-2 months

How anyone can argue we have not lost ground to at least the Eagles and Giants is delusional.
And I am sure every team that does not spend in free agency has to feel this way.

Key factor is that due to the tight purse strings, they have put all their eggs into April's result.

Issue is just very simple, they need to nail this draft. Just like last year.

Tall order, they need to make sure they have evaluated this roster correctly and will need a few wildcards (like Heath, for example) to pull through.

First off, I did not. Last season, I said 10-6.

New England quiet during free agency? LOL

Randy Moss, Chris Long, Brandin Cooks, Martellus Bennett, Lagarette Blount, Corey Dillon, Brandon Lloyd, Donte Stallworth, Albert Haynesworth, Brian Waters, Will Allen, Alge Crumpler, Fred Taylor, Joey Galloway.......

I could go on and on.

Depth? Both starting corners and strong safety?

Another dreamer.

We have lost starters and depth on the defense that was woefully undermanned as it was. Free is going. Romo will not be back to at least at depth at the most important position. Bo

What part of any of that is getting better?

Heath has been on the roster for 6 years at least and has never been good enough start with suspect safeties playing in front of him. If Heath becomes that starter that will be bad. We can only hope they get someone else.

That is certainly better than whatever the Eagles trotted out there, Victor Cruz and you could even say Pryor to a certain extent.

They got better. And of course, there is this little issue about the simple fact we have no pass rush and the corner group in Dallas is in bad shape.

I am sure the rest of the division is not impressed with Nolan Carroll matched up against these additions.

Come on man.

We are using the same approach that got us nowhere with a HOF caliber QB.

People that are still trusting the same ole' process are being naive. Jerry wasted one franchise QB's career. Can we afford to waste another?
