Cowboys losing Ground? For the Record . reinforces how 2016 was a missed opportunity ***MERGED***

True but I think Cowboys will be able to keep a core group together. Jones paid out big money to guys like Tyron Smith, he paid guys like Romo and Witten, he seems to be investing in the future with Frederick and Martin. In the process of it all you are right you will lose some FA but people tend to overlook the contracts some core players are getting.
But are they doing things different on offense? I see your point about the core group. Where are the core group guys on the defense?

This early into FA the pats have shored up their running and passing game and have the best backup QB in Garrapolo, who, in turn could fetch the Pats a really nice draft pick from a needy team.
I keep thinking the league will see the inequity of a championship team getting even better and step in and save the rest of the league, but that is not the way it works.

As of right now we still have the best backup QB in the league.

Otherwise agree.

We are using the same approach that got us nowhere with a HOF caliber QB.

People that are still trusting the same ole' process are being naive. Jerry wasted one franchise QB's career. Can we afford to waste another?
Not really. The Cowboy draft and FA tactics has changed for the better in the last 5 yrs. The FO is on the right path. Is it perfect, no, but its certainly a lot better than before.

I have watched NY, Philly and Washington play the big money FA game and what has it accounted for? Nothing Other teams like Jacksonville seem to win the FA battle every year and what do they have to show for it? Nothing Miami went out and paid a ransom for Suh are they any closer to a SB? NO

Personally I like the moves Dallas has made in FA because they are filling gaps but it will fall to the draft to get the difference makers.
Lol, are you kidding? Look at NY's defense in 2015 and compare it to last year after spending in FA. You're telling me going from one of the worst defenses in the league to one of the best over the course of one off season accounts for "nothing"?

Agreed. Its the Defense that will kill the club this year. It takes time and this draft will help the Defense and there is still the possibility of a trade or two. Its not over yet. Signing big name FA's is not the answer.

They lost in the 1st playoff game. One and done.

Like us. And everyone here says it will take a few years to build the defense. Maybe it will take the Giants a few years to build the offense. It's insane to say they got nothing out of all their spending. They have a core defensive unit that is top tier.

Our saving grace is Eli.

I guess they plan is to draft and develop but in the end the results at the end of the year are the same as they have been for the last twenty so I don't see a lot of progress to me they are just running place until they can win a some playoff games 13 and 3 is nice but its been done before

It is a mixed bag, but the sad thing is we could have improve substantial and we did not.

Without any more FA and not counting draft:
OL got worse
RB less depth
WR the same or better with more experience
QB will have less depth
TE same

DL is going to be better from more experience and possibly return from injury (though always injuries)
LB will be much better if Jaylon is good
CB is worse
S is worse though Jones has more experience

Not sure the Dline is better. We just lost two solid rotation guys if anything. Gregory is gone for sure.

The thing about last year is that it was a miracle year for chemistry and injuries. Not sure that is going to happen again. It was a golden opportunity and we blew it. Not sure those type of years can be expected to come by every year. Definitely not. And our schedule is not a last place schedule, but a first place schedule. And all 3 of the NFC East teams are hot on our heals and have improved in this FA period.

1000% right

Defense did not look great WC game where they were rolled for 38 points. Did their overall defense improve sure but the end results still was not great given what they spent. Their pass defense was ranked 23rd last year

1000% right

If people want reality, that is it. Doesnt mean we wont do well, and it doenst mean we wont improve through another signing or the draft. But some fans at the end of the year were pretty much like "oh well, our future is bright, we will be back next year" Not guaranteed. That was a miracle season last year. Love the offense going forward, but we have seen that even with a miracle season, this defense was nowhere near good enough to win a SB. And then we always have the head coach/in game/clock management handicap that isn't changing any time soon.

Oh, so unless you win a playiff game it's considered nothing? Got it. Building a team for the future counts for nothing. In your mind, Dallas and Cleveland are one and the same. Drafting Dak, Zeke...putting together a great O line means nothing unless they win a playoff game.

Hell NY has both top 5 in terms of contract yet NY had 35 sacks on the season and the Cowboys had 36 with our DL? LOL yeah NY got a big bang for their bucks when a bunch of Jags in Dallas actually had more sacks. LOL
Jason Pierre-Paul
Defensive End $16,934,000
Olivier Vernon
Defensive End $11,750,000
Sacks don't mean everything, look at total yards, thats what matters the most IMO. It also has to do with strategy and who they're playing. They hardly touched Dak but they kept Zeke to under 100 yards in both games, which they won.

They probably focused on stopping the run and forcing Dak to throw against their secondary. We all saw how that worked out, pretty well if your a Giants fan. Not to mention JPP missed a quarter of the season though I do think he's over rated and asking for too much money.
