Similar build? Woodson was 6'2, Peppers is 5'10. Similar athleticism? Peppers is way more athletic than Woodson. Woodson isn't as fluid as Peppers is. Don't get me wrong, Woodson was good. But he didn't return punters. He's not as athletic as Peppers.
When I referenced Peppers build, I literally meant his build not his height. Both Woodson and Peppers are/were built like a brick **** house.

As to Woodson's athleticism, He ran a 4.44 40 (Peppers ran a 4.46). He had fluid enough hips to cover TEs and the slot receiver as well as serve as the punishing in the box safety. He was absolutely Peppers' equal as an athlete.

Woody also had a 40+ inch vertical.

Woodson was a LB with FS range.....litterally. With his coverage ability I think people sometimes forget how vicious of a hitter he was.

Peppers is not great at tackling, he throws himself at guys rather than wrapping up.
Didn't say he was great, I said he doesn't need to horse collar to make tackles... after the rules was made RW was close to an average tackler, big hit here and there but nothing special.

That guy probably put it about as close to what I've been trying to say about Peppers, as anyone has.

I like him a lot and think he would be a big plus to the Dallas defense. He'd bring the alpha dog mentality over there like Zeke brought to offense.

We could do a lot worse at 28... but I doubt he makes it there.

THats what I like about him, what he could bring back there to this secondary. With his latest workouts and strong combine I don't know if he's there at 28. I see a trade up if we really want this guy.

I think we'll have as much a shot at Peppers as we do at Barnett.

That could end up being the case.

Barnett is really a strange case though.

There has been zero buzz about him this entire process.

No workouts, no private visits.

Of the top 20-30 prospects, he is one of two players I have not read anything about in terms of "interest", the other being Gareon Conley.

Just makes you wonder what is going on with him.

The top prospects usually only have a few private workouts/visits and usually with the teams that have a realistic shot at them. If you see a bunch of visits, that means there are a lot of questions for them (background or injury usually). Players like Garrett, Foster and Fournette have had two or three publicized workouts or visits. Lattimore and Adams have had one each so far. Peppers has had four visits so far (Buffalo, Houston, Miami, Washington).

Nothing for Barnett yet. His Pro Day is today, so perhaps something starts rolling after that and we get a better picture where he stands.

But Peppers can cover outside receivers. Woody can't. The taller you are, the less hip movement you have, which is why Woody was a safety and not a corner.

Again, I'm not trying to diminish Woody's contributions, but he wasn't as athletic as Peppers. I know there's this incessant need to compare players to Cowboy greats, but I just don't see the comparison between the two.

But we'll have to agree to disagree.

I think teams are scared he might be another Michael sam,a limited athlete who had a great college career.i don't believe but teams value athleticism a lot.

Before I began really looking at these prospects, Peppers was someone who I had hoped would be there at 28. Now I am not sure. It is tough to see how his game translates to the pros with his college tape. He played so close to the line of scrimmage and his role was so customized to him. He is not a big guy, so I do worry about him playing so close to the scrimmage in the NFL. Although my biggest concern is can he play 15 yards off the ball for a full game and impact the game? That is what I want to see. If you are liability in coverage, teams will find ways to isolate you and take advantage of you. Over time, that is what teams did to our Roy Williams.

If you can tell me he can be a good player in coverage all game and make some plays on the ball, I would then be on board because of all the other things he can do on the football field. Although, if he cannot be very good playing centerfield or covering backs and tight ends, I think in today's NFL that is not a good value for a first round pick.

I think Michael Sam had bigger evaluation hurdles to overcome besides his limited athleticism.

He was all State in sprinting and RB when in High School.
If you did not know this.

So he has skills to run - Wildcat?????
At least a punt returner.

At this point, I prefer a potencial difference maker on defense (Peppers), than a situational pass rusher (Harris, Charlton, etc.).

Harris might be a situational because he has a tough time against the run, but Charlton is more capable of being an every down lineman.

I think some in this thread are confusing Rod Woodson (total freak athlete who could play CB or FS) and former Cowboy Darren Woodson (SS who could play LB)

4.8-4.9 unofficial 40, 7.12 3 cone, 4.44 20 yard shuttle, and 31" vert...more or less the same workout #'s as the combine.

Who knows, maybe he really does fall. Tape says he's a top 15 pick, but workout #'s say 2nd rounder at best. Should be interesting...

The Woodson originally being talked about was Rod. I think you guys have shifted over to Darren?
Totally different players, as you know.
