Erastus "Deaf" Smith is my great great great grandfather. He was Sam Houston's chief scout. Santa Anna and his army allowed Smith and a few others to leave the Alamo just prior to the battle. Well, Smith made his way to San Jacinto and helped Sammy beat the Mexican army like a pinata.

My great grandmother and her family, the Broadbents, owned much of South Texas in the 1800s and early 1900s. I believe they either gambled or sold most of it away. They were part of the early versions of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Because of my lineage, my daughter could someday join, if she chooses.

Participants during the fight against Mexico, were all allowed large land grants for fighting for the establishing of the new Repulic...nice share, my friend. Most counties then, were named after the land grant recipients.

When it comes to tacos, it is like the old miller lite commercials....taste great or less filling...............corn or flour for the tortilla.
