We obviously have one of the more talented teams. Gotta be top 3-5 in the league. It's just a matter of executing and coming up big when it matters most. Hopefully this is the year we finally do that.

Getting this young team experience will be the key and I think [secondary] they'll have no choice.
If McClay's golden touch continues it will always be interesting off-seasons and camps to see
the influx of talent and churning of good talent. A great problem as they say.
That influx will alleviate the big contracts that we have given out and are going to be giving out.
FA will become a thing of the past.

I have been thinking about the 90's dynasty teams. I think this OL is better overall than they were. That's saying a lot.

Zeke is a better running back than Emmitt was. He may not have the career longevity Emmitt had and he may never attain it but he is a much more talented back than Emmitt was.

Dak was much better as a rookie than Troy was. It's hard to say he is better than hall of gamer Troy Aikman, but he has the potential to be if he continues to improve.

If this defense can play up to its potential it's going to be a fun year if we stay healthy.

Offensively top 10 for sure probably top five. Not sure about the defense. I think the depth continues to improve but I couldn't give it or the D a number yet.

The first three regular seasons games, I will be judging by how many points that the defense gives up and where that falls.

It is clear that the Cowboys have done a very good job or acquiring talent and the window remains open to win a super bowl. I guess how much talent the Cowboys have relative to other teams is the subject of legitimate deabate.

I would say that most people would agree that the Cowboys have top 10 overall talent and should be a favorite in most of their games. Some would say that we are top 5. I personally think we are in the discussion that we may arguably have the best talent overall in the entire league.

A lot remains to be seen, but there should be even more optimism from our 2016 rookie class. If Jaylon, Tapper and Rico turn out to be all that and a bag of chips and we continue to get the same or better play out of the other rookies in the class that actually played last year we have a chance at having the best one year draft classes of all time.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say at least one of the additional rookies (Smith, Tapper, and Rico) will become a starter this year. I really believe we will get more than that out of them.

I really see the only question marks as secondary play early on and pass rush. If we can just be average in those categories in the first half of the year we are going to win a lot of games folks. We should be better than league average in the second half of the year.

What can derail us? An injury to one of the big 3 on the OL. If Freddie gets hurt it's a different ballgame.

If Dak or Zeke are out, then it's a bad deal too. Oddly enough if Collins gets injured (on defense) it might hurt us as much or more than if Sean Lee gets injured. He is a very important piece of this defense.

If we can stay healthy, this could be a very god defense, and that includes Jaylon and Tapper. I predict top 7 defense if we stay healthy, with more upside than that. Tapper may be our x-factor this year.
Our offense should be top 5. The defense and special teams are in the bottom 10. Based on a tough schedule, we should be 9-7 or possibly 10-6.

Agreed. The youth and depth on D is much improved but there are still a lot of unknowns on that side of the ball. Gotta wait and see how that pans out.

Offensively barring a rash of injuries, this group is a top 5-7 unit.

the infusion of new talent on defense, while scary (mostly the youth), means that virtually very few should feel that they are starters with the exception of Lee and Jones...that breeds competition in camp and that can't be anything but good for the unit (sure, Collins likely starts, but even that is not a given)

so there should be no excuse for a deep playoff run then if the talent level is that good

The skillset which Zeke Elliott is a receiver, puts his skill set at a start point comparable to that brought into the NFL by Emmitt Smith...and that expands the ability of expanding Cowboys offense as well.

And now, things may get even better. While Switzer’s arrival has opened up all sorts of possibilities to confound defenses by putting him and Beasley on the field together, the fact that Bryant now has a chance to work more with Prescott adds yet anther dimension. With Dez as a deep threat (and often drawing an extra defensive back in coverage), Williams working the intermediate part of the field, and Beasley and/or Switzer running loose in the short area, opposing secondaries may simply be overwhelmed by the options Dak will have. And that is without even considering tight ends or running backs in the pattern.

And, you know, that running game is not going to be shabby, either. While there are still a lot of questions to be answered on defense, it is very easy to believe that Dallas will be a real offensive powerhouse this year. Don’t expect much to be hidden once the games get underway...

...Beasley comes in at number five in the league. He is one of the more underrated receivers in the league, in part due to the fact that Bryant is such a huge presence, drawing so much attention. Dallas fans know how valuable Beasley is to their team and to Prescott. But what is surprising is that Williams shows up on the list at number thirteen. That makes the Cowboys one of only three teams with two receivers in the top 20.

Interestingly enough, Dallas has two wide receivers in the top 20, but neither is All-Pro Dez Bryant. For whatever reason, rookie Dak Prescott was not nearly as efficient when throwing to Bryant, who will tend to draw the tougher defensive matchup, and who was not always 100 percent healthy in 2016. Still, Prescott was -2.0 to Bryant, tied with Brice Butler for his lowest plus-minus to any teammate. We know Cole Beasley catches the underneath routes out of the slot, but one thing Dallas changed this year was to get Terrance Williams more involved in the intermediate game. Bryant's targets were nearly a full 4 yards deeper than Williams', so that certainly had something to do with the numbers being down. Bryant has been a +21.9 in his career with Tony Romo at quarterback, but -11.0 with Dallas' other passers. Prescott will have to get better at throwing to his No. 1 receiver, but this is a minor quibble to have on a Dallas offense that seems set for a long run of success.

As well as illuminating the value of Williams, this is one more bit of evidence countering the false impression that Prescott is only good in the short passing game. And now, things may get even better. Outside of Lee and Jones, there is no one on the defense I consider indispensable. If Collins goes down you have Crawford and Irving right there. We are literally 3 deep at every DL position.

The issue is frontline talent and we need DL and DBs to step up.

With the frontline talent on offense and the depth on defense we are the most talented team in the division and top 5 in the league.

Good snapshot, Fuzzy...and the possibilities of Crawford isn't lost on this fan.

Possibly the most talented Cowboys team I have seen.

Gathers
Tapper
Switzer
J. Smith
Collins

If all of those guys become good players, this is the most talented team the Cowboys have had since 1978.

What about 1992?

This team would be more talented than that team!

Yikes. You are vastly more optimistic than I. I think the offense is very loaded pending Dak continues his progress and injuries are minimal. There isn't but one player on defense that has yet proven he can play at a PB level and that's Sean Lee. To project the D will even be good is total speculation and hope. That said, I do hope you are right.

That said, our coaching staff would still be junior varsity compared to 1992.
