This movie = no lazy writing in this one.

9.5 out of 10

Before you even get to the "apes" aspect. They went very deep between the ears with Caesar and the Colonel.

This was the best of the three movies by far.
Movie 2 was sorta bad. Could have skipped making it.
Movie 1 left something to be desired.


Usually, I leave a movie and think "I would have done this or that differently"... not the case here.

Also...
This could have been a stand alone movie.
 
I hated this. Liked the first two, but found this to be awful. So many cliches. So much sap. It felt forced and insincere. The plot was pretty awful and poorly paced. Woody was wasted. The end conclusion was embarrassing. Definitely the most disappointing movie of the year for me. The first one I went to on Thursday night instead of waiting until at least Sat/Sun morning. It could have been at least an hour shorter too, the first half is just a bunch of nothing.
 
Still need to get around to watching the second one in the new series.
 
i loved it. there were a few "uh...guys, really" scenes in how a girl walks right into the camp w/o opposition and that they don't wind up back near new york (long walk to be sure) but i thought this was well played out, developed well and didn't rely on as many gimmicks to keep things going.

to me it was the best of the modern series to say the least.
 
I'm watching it tomorrow. But I got a question, why didn't humans just nuke the apes.
Or use planes to bomb the forests into oblivion, or just burn down the forests. Or lure them all out with bananas

I thought the first one was awful, the second one was decent. I'll get around to this one eventually.

Who could nuke the apes? Around 90% of the human population died from the Simian virus and the after effects between Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

If humans can nuke humans, humans can nuke apes. Part of that 10% of humans that survived the Simian virus was the .001% of the human population that it takes to actually launch a nuke. "Why didn't humans nuke the apes?", is a legit question. The last human beings on earth will be the guys capable of launching nukes... true story. Did you learn nothing from the original series?

I don't think this trilogy is tied to the original series. They have a few references and light connections, but these movies aren't beholden to the original series. Rod Serling, who initially penned the screenplay is the one who tied the story to the Cold War and nuclear warfare. These current renditions tied it to disease and pandemic.

I never said it wasn't a legit question. I do understand why one would ask why nukes would be an option. My question is legit as well. Who is left that has knowledge of how to launch a nuke? As you pointed out that is already a small percentage with that type of knowledge and as with the rest of the general population we have to assume many of them died as well. And of those survivors who are knowledgeable, how many are willing to actually follow through and nuke the apes? I think while the question is legit, it is far easier to ask than it is to answer.

Also, we don't know for certain if nukes weren't used. These particular movies only follow a group of apes and humans in a specific area. The entire planet was dealing with the effects of the virus and apes gaining intellect. It is possible in some other region of the country or the world someone, somewhere, and somehow launched a nuke.

The soldiers from the north with all the Apache helicopters that came in to shut down crazy woody Harrison. Woody was a colonel in the movie so I'm going to assume that his military superiors were generals

It's not tied to original movie but it is a new story telling of how Taylor got to where he got to ....and what it was when he got there.
 
Loved it.

Did not "enjoy" it as much as DAWN, but it was better written. There was PLENTY of lazy writing in this though. Lotta plot convenience and cliches. Slow, with pacing issues specially towards the beginning, but a damn solid movie all around.

That being said. One of the best Trilogies in a loooooong time.


As for "Why didn't humans do *thing*". We aren't given enough information about the humans to know, so who really cares. Make up what you want. Just cause someone is a Colonel doesn't mean they would have been one in a non decimated society. The military could easily be made up of scraps of humanity, who a majority weren't even IN the military before the virus took place. Who's to say anyone alive has access to some place with nukes, or the code/know how to launch, target, use satellites, etc. We don't know much about the state of Humans post virus, tbh, other than they are mostly militarized.

It was done near perfectly for the "ape" cinemas experience. It goes about 30 minutes with just CGI apes... and you don't realize it. It was done that well.

I can't say I lump this genre in with godfather and gone with the wind. That's a different rating system.



Go... you will enjoy it!

We liked it, it was really fun and entertaining. Definitely one of the better movies of the year and young Nova and Bad Ape were great. I liked all the ape characters and the tie-ins with the original. Lots of closing of loops. For me it was a 8/10

Good points. Even if they did nuke all the apes it wouldn't have really changed their fate. The apes were the small fries. The big picture was the virus. The virus had a far greater impact on the decimation of the human race than anything the apes were doing.
