NFLN Willie McGinest: Collins won every rep against Taco

I remember hearing the same thing about Bosa last year. Early reports from San Deigo had him not winning a single 1 on 1...............then 10 sacks during the season. Motiviation apparently. Like Randy White said---he was scared of failing that drove him.

That is EXACTLY my feeling too. I'd be more concerned if Collins was getting beat by a rookie in our first padded practice.

And I love that he's not just winning, but punishing. La'El Collins could be our most physically dominating RT since Erik Williams. And if can be that, this offensive line, and offense overall can rise to a new level of dominance.

To see if they made the right decision or the wrong decision when the choice was theirs to make between the two. If they were right, I'll give them the credit they deserve and admit I was wrong. If not, they will get the blame they deserve.

I said when they drafted Charlton over Watt that I would reserve judgement and let things play out. And as a Cowboys fan, I'm rooting big time for Taco to succeed, but if he doesn't, I'm definitely going to talk about it.
 
Npt a padded practice, but...

I’ve been hopeful to see Taco Charlton present some problems for Tyron Smith, and in the blitz period, he was able to do just that. Charlton put his left hand in Smith’s chest and extended it in order to keep Smith's hands off him. Once he had Smith under control, Charlton was able to quickly attack his edge and execute a quality rush. This was a real step in the right direction because during the OTAs and minicamps, Charlton didn't sniff a pressure against the All-Pro left tackle.

Watt is a 3-4 player. He wouldn't fit here. Whether Taco turns out to be great or not, we made the right choice between him and Watt.

I don't see how you can consider the team rep a loss by Taco. He played contain on a run play, going outside first, then bouncing back inside to force Zeke outside and keep him from cutting it upfield. That seemed pretty textbook to me. For Collins to have won that rep, he would have needed to keep Charlton outside to allow Zeke to cut inside of him.

I think there's a lot of time when players get ripped because they didn't make the play when they were actually doing their job, which helped mess up the play.

Collins got in a good shove at the end of the play, but Taco had done his job at that point. The only win for Collins is that Taco wasn't able to go get in on the tackle when he went back to the outside.

Tell yourself whatever makes you feel better.

Ware was a "3-4 player" too, until the team decide to go back to the 4-3, then he was a defensive end.

Randy Gregory was considered a "3-4 player" too, at 235 lbs, who drafted him in the 2nd round to play defensive end?

Benson Mayowa was a "3-4 player" in Oakland when the Cowboys signed him.

Don't tell me about "3-4 player" and "fit".

We'll see if they "made the right choice", no excuses.

Bosa also had a hamstring issue in camp.
