Best Western Ever? For a Few Dollars More

I cannot nominate one as being better than all the others.

The Searchers
Outlaw Josey Wales
Good, Bad and the Ugly
the original True Grit
Tombstone
High Noon
The Wild Bunch

Those off the top of my head and I no doubt can come up with more. Duel at Diablo is VERY under rated.
The Searchers, The Wild Bunch and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance are incredible, with Ford and Peckinpah reconsidering all the traditional Western ideas and conventions.

Jimmy Stewart. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Nice pull.

"The Good, The Bad and The Ugly".

Eli Wallach as Tuco is what sets that film ahead of the other Eastwood westerns.

Also luv "The Cowboys". Great film towards the end of JW's career. What kid watching that film couldn't envision himself on a cattle drive and shooting bad guys?

Greatly enjoy "Big Jake". Not often put down as one of JW's best movies but I thought (and still do) think it's a great film.

"Magnificent Seven" is very entertaining and I rate it highly.

Shenandoah was a good movie by J. Stewart

Very under rated as well. But then Jimmy Stewart NEVER gave a bad performance in his entire career.

It is sad the western genre is pretty much extinct. You only see maybe one decent film a year if that anymore. to be blunt I cannot think of many in the last ten years at all. Open Range comes to mind as really good but that is all I can think of right now.

"I thought you were dead."

"Not hardly"

Appaloosa was decent.

Gunfight At The OK Corral (The Original)
El Dorado
Rio Bravo
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
The Searchers (Although I've seen it so many times I'm kinda tired of it.)
Angel And The Bad Man
The Sons of Katie Elder
The War Wagon

Tombstone is prolly my favorite western, it's a hard choice over the various Eastwood movies. There's a lot of great ones already mentioned, but don't see another one of my favs mentioned yet, Silverado. Also not mentioned yet and deserving of honorable mentions Quigley Down Under and of course, Blazing Saddles.

No love for Dances with Wolves...still love that movie.

What about The Cowboys with John Wayne....one of the better bad guys played by Bruce Dern in that one.

Not the biggest Western fan...although I like most of the Eastwood and Wayne movies....the other movies I like are more random...

The last of the Dogmen - kind of a modern day western

Jeremiah Johnson

Open Range

Django Unchained

The Quick and the Dead

Ravenous

Silverado is one I should have remembered. Dances with Wolves, Quigley Down Under, virtually anything with Sam Elliot in it. I think Sam Elliot should be considered the successor to John Wayne as regards westerns.

Arrggg Forgot Quigley Down Under. Good one.

3.10 to Yuma was good.
Open Range was very good.
Westerns evidently don't make
enough money at theater.
That's why none are being made.
