Equifax data breach

True
I don't see this as conservative or liberal.
When terrible actions occur, laws are passed to control them.
e.g.
I'm sure there's a idiotic law saying you can't make sausages out of puppies.
You know why they had to make that a law?
Nope. It's legal. In 44 states, anyway.

Wouldn't they be trying to open up new lines of credit with your info and without you knowing it?

They might try but not everyones data that was stolen will actually be used. It will be a small percentage of people that will end up being affected.

There is really nothing you can do but just wait and see. Don't worry, you won't lose any money, it will be refunded.

Ok thanks. Just worried they will try to buy cars and stuff using my info

That is too much work for thieves, they will try minor stuff that doesn't raise a lot of red flags.....mostly online stuff. There is no possible way they can buy a car with just your credit info.

I heard if you go to their site and see if your info was taken, you waive the right to be part of a class action.

That was apparently false. It seems they have clarified things recently and acceptance of the credit monitoring does not waive your rights.

Hi maxx. My wife and I are two illetrates regarding credit. Both of us have high credit score though. How can we find out if our information was stolen? Any easy way to do?

I didn't see that anyone responded to your questions...

Here you go - https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/

Enter the requested info and it will let you know if your info was 'possibly' stolen or not. You will then be offered to signup for their free credit monitoring for one year. I'd suggest doing it even if you're info wasn't hacked. It will be a great way to see what you have out there/open so that you can be pro-active and close the accounts that aren't being used.

I signed up for free credit monitoring for both my daughter and me that was offered with AllClear ID after Anthem got hacked a couple years ago. Hope whoever Equifax contracted with is better. Nothing like hearing 4-6 weeks later there was activity of some sort. These companies should be paying for something proactive and not reactive if you ask me.
