Went online to buy a Nvidia 1070 GPU and Amazon wanted to add another 40 bucks or so in tax, I just used them about 6-8 weeks ago and didn't notice any tax added. Weird. I suppose I could use Newegg but am more comfortable with Amazon,
Kiss it.......

Are you buying it from Amazon or another resaler on Amazon? Sometimes I get tax, sometimes I do not.

What's pissing me off about Amazon is I'm a prime member and I used to get packages delivered all seven days with 2-day shipping. They recently changed the rules and now charge you extra for Saturday delivery and I believe do not even offer Sunday anymore.

It is Amazon, {usually} the resellers price is bumped up a bit. Don't know if this is Amazons fault or this bass akward state, whomever it is can go play in traffic.

I'm almost positive tax is a result of state laws on where you live and the location of the vendor/seller. A large portions of online retailers have had the luxury of sales tax loopholes, where they were not required to charge sales tax and in turn give them a competitive advantage over brick & mortar sellers.

States have slowly been closing these loopholes and you being charged is most likely a product of that.

I am not defending Amazon but I would bet they'd love to not have to charge sales tax and maintain that advantage.

Tax depends on a number of things. Likely the order is being fulfilled by Amazon but the actual seller is in your state, meaning you must pay state tax.

I don't know about where you live, but Amazon/U.S.P.S. delivered to my house last Sunday. I was shocked to see someone delivering on Sundays.

Amazon seems to do a lot of sneaky **** that you won't read about in the papers.

Nail on the head.

I placed the same item in my cart on Newegg just to see if they would charge a tax and they did not.

Well its directly from Amazon, the resellers on Amazon usually charge a bit more and noticed they don't charge a tax. I don't believe{?} there is a Amazon warehouse here in Oklahoma. Actually just looked and there are 2 close by, one is 3 hours to the south in Dallas and the other is about 3 hours north in Kansas. None in Oklahoma though.

Yup that is exactly what it boils down to. If the item is sourced intrastate then it is taxed. There is no interstate sales tax OTOH.

Personally I think that is not a good thing as it hamstrings local business who already has extra overhead via a storefront but I certainly understand seeking out the best deal.

This will be interesting to follow especially as Alibaba and Amazon compete to take over the same companies to offer more products. Alibaba even offers financing. I pay very close attention when buying something on Amazon especially because return policy drastically changes if it's a reseller.

Ok i am not following you, the item is sourced interstate and not intrastate but they are still charging a tax. I would make a joke about the Intercontinental Railroad but now isn't a time for levity.
