If you were the GM of the Cowboys what moves would you make to improve the team? Who would you get rid of and what areas would you try to upgrade?

Here is what I would do:

1. In the offseason I would make a Witten take a pay cut to about half of what he is currently making or cut or trade him. If he stayed I would use his savvy on 3rd down but I would cut his snaps in half.

2. I would draft a STUD linebacker if possible in one of the top two rounds. I would also try to draft a linebacker late as a backup. He would have speed to burn.

3. I would look to unload Dez Bryant. Hopefully to someone who is enamored with his reputation but doesn't see that he sucks. If not cut his pay in at least half and use him as a number 2 possession receiver. If he wouldn't take a pay cut I would cut him.

4. Draft a true number 1 wide receiver in the first or second round.

5. Move Collins back inside. Pay or draft a right tackle.

6. Draft or pay for a true 1 tech.

AGREED

I would have gone after a run stuffing DT. We are very weak up the middle. This would allow us to keep Irving at the 3-tech. Maybe get a pricey 1-tech for the season and dump the contract. I also think they could have gotten a longer term #2 WR although I don't know why they haven't started Butler in place of T-Will.

YR

Dez Bryant is ranked 41st in yards right now, he is no where close to near his salary.

D Thomas who has been injured and playing with Siemen is ranked 18th...

I would fire Garrett and hire a stud young innovative coach.
I would fire Linehan or however you spell his name, and hire an innovative coordinator.
I would fire Marinelli and hire a coach with a better scheme, lined at getting turnovers.

I would move Collins away from RT and find a replacement.
I would titer with the LG position to see which sticks.
I'd draft or FA a stud FAST wide receiver, make him the primary receiver.
I'd redo Dez's contract. If he refuses, I'd trade him.
Witten will be 2nd TE.
I'd promote Butler over Williams. tinker with it.

I'd draft/FA a safety.
I'd draft a fat fast DT
I'd move Smith to a different LB position and rush him at times.
I'd go after a stud CB.

My coordinator will instruct Dak to be more aggressive, if he can't, my next draft will be QB even if I have to move my entire draft to get him.

If none of this works, then I keep being aggressive until I have the team I want in place.

If I was GM I would continue to do what Jerry is doing let the coaches and staff do their jobs. I would still like for someone to tell me when GMs started making coaching decisions about what types of players they want to play in their systems

The #1 receiver in yards is Antonio Brown..

Dallas passing yards ranked 22nd
Pittsburgh passing yards ranked 4th
Dallas rushing yards ranked 2nd
Pittsburgh rushing yards ranked 14th

I'm too lazy to chase your narrative, but I would bet that teams with "leading" receivers in yards aren't playing as much smash mouth football as we do, and have a much larger deficit in spreading the football around. Also, how many have 2nd year QB's that still have a learning curve? Get off the soap box. Dez is not the problem in Dallas.

As the Cowboys' GM, the first thing I'd do would be to step down as GM and hire a competent one to replace me.

Upon having accomplished that task, I'd then plead with him humbly to please fix the defense, first and foremost.
a Pity that Jerry doesn't see it as you do
