9) This one might enflame some............ I'd look to do something with Beasley. Now this is predicated on what they think of Switzer but if you trade or cut Beasley you can save $3.3MM against the cap. The guy has 16 catches this year, not exactly lighting it up.

"Inflame"? No. Your idea doesn't anger me at all but rather confuses me. He actually has 18 catches (still kinda low for him) but I dare you to find a proven slot receiver that is better value. If he was getting $5-6M per year, I'd totally agree.

I do partially agree with you about Witten and Dez, though.

Typo, sorry.

Anyway, Beasley's cap hit is $4.25MM in 2018. If they think Switzer can fill his spot, I'd consider dumping him. If you want to improve, you have to make tough calls like this.

Fire Garrett
Hire Harbaugh and give him full reign to hire his own coaching staff and let him make team personnel decisions.
Give McClay the full title of GM and get the heck out of the way.

This^^

Nothing short of the NFC title game next year folks if this were to happen.

Where are we getting all of these early draft picks.
Are we trading Herschel Walker again?

Just drafting a stud WR sounds easier than it is. Ask the Commanders, Eagles, Vikings etc how these stud WR’s usually turn out.

You don’t strengthen your team by exercising your personal biases against quality players and replacing them with crap shots called the NFL draft.

There is a reason a lot of teams hedged their bets with trades yesterday.

Well, there are lots of nice suggestions here none of which will likely happen anytime soon.
Jerry isn't going anywhere until the Big Guy in the Sky takes him home and then Stephen is
going to run things pretty much like his Dad taught him. They are not going to get rid of the coaches
until the team totally quits on them. They will hold on to their older players at least 1 year longer than
they should and they will mismanage the cap like Jerry always has. That's the name of this tune.
Correct on all counts.

Might as well sit back and "enjoy the ride".

As GM I would replace the DC. Ron Marinelli's scheme is the weakest link on this team. The team lost 2 home games after scoring 30 points at home, that's unacceptable!
Well, he cannot be fairly evaluated until they have a chance to draft several All Pros for his defense to see what he can do.

Here is what I would do:

1. In the offseason I would make a Witten take a pay cut to about half of what he is currently making or cut or trade him. If he stayed I would use his savvy on 3rd down but I would cut his snaps in half.

2. I would draft a STUD linebacker if possible in one of the top two rounds. I would also try to draft a linebacker late as a backup. He would have speed to burn.

3. I would look to unload Dez Bryant. Hopefully to someone who is enamored with his reputation but doesn't see that he sucks. If not cut his pay in at least half and use him as a number 2 possession receiver. If he wouldn't take a pay cut I would cut him.

4. Draft a true number 1 wide receiver in the first or second round.

5. Move Collins back inside. Pay or draft a right tackle.

6. Draft or pay for a true 1 tech.

So in essence your plan is just draft / sign elite players that will come it and play elite. Easy peasy.

Isn't Irving playing the 3 Tech? I thought it was Collins who they moved to the 1 tech?

We've moved them around from what I've seen. But mostly it's Irving at 3-tech. I just want to keep him there.

Really glad that some people on this board are not the GM of this team. It's stunning to see the lack of actual football knowledge and how many people make decisions based on emotions.

Interesting.

What things have people suggested that you think are based on "emotions"?

That sounds like our organization's plan too.

Except not signing free agents. That is bad.

Just draft them. So they can play cheap.

I would draft players with some speed. I would sign players with some speed.

By the naked eye, I don't think there is a slower team than us. Our QB is like the third fastest on the team!

Curious to see what you consider "actual football knowledge" and what is "emotional". Got any examples?

If you were the GM of the Cowboys what moves would you make to improve the team? Who would you get rid of and what areas would you try to upgrade?

Right now or starting in this next offseason? Right now, I stand pat because the trade deadline is past and I don't know of any improvements over what we already have sitting on the couch.

Come offseason, though, the one roster position in my opinion that needs an immediate upgrade is Strong Safety. We could get better at alot of positions, don't get me wrong, but Heath, in my opinion, is a huge liability in coverage...and here lately, in run support, as well. The linebacker ranks could use some fresh legs and they absolutely need to start thinking about who will be Sean Lee's successor...I suspect he's at most 3 years from being done. Do we already have Witten's successor in house? That's a question I'd like my coaches to sound off on, because given what we've seen in-game, his back ups have a lot of proving to do. Off the top of my head, I don't know who will be Free Agents at the end of the year, but I'm keeping ZMartin, DLaw and DIrving, no matter what. Obviously, a space-eating DT will be on my target list.

Ultimately, though, I really like how the Cowboys have drafted over the last several years, particularly when they let the draft come to them. I really don't like the idea of moving up or down, if it can be avoided. That said, if Heath's replacement is there, I might make a concerted effort to go get him. Otherwise, keep the development train on who we have in house rolling and see what talent rises to the top in training camp.

Woods need to take that role (he also needs to work on wrapping up when he tackles, though).
Woods, in my opinion, is a Free Safety. But I, too, have mentioned that we might still get better production from Woods than Heath in the role temporarily. But if Chris Thompson (a scatback) can break his tackle, Strong Safety, in the long run, is not for him.

I'm not sure about strong safety yet. Our linebacker play has been so poor how can you really evaluate it?

Heath has enough speed to cover receivers which is critical in the NFL. If we get adequate linebacker play I'm not sure Heath even looks like the same player.
