Deion Sanders fires back at Tony Romo's comment about his tackling **merged**

Don't be surprised to see Romo take the high road this weekend with an apology .........which would make Deion's response look even worst. I'm guessing CBS has no intention seeing two of their top employees in a public bloodbath......
Either that or like he has for years, Romo will just let it slide.

fwiw, here's one CBS affiliate's take

"By Micheal Hurley, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) — On Sunday afternoon, Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters followed up his historical level of unwillingness to tackle from Week 8 with a more run-of-the-mill whiff on a tackle attempt in Week 9.

Peters threw a diving shoulder toward the ankles of Ezekiel Elliott, who leaped over Peters to gain a few extra yards. On the broadcast, first-year color commentator Tony Romo commented that Peters is such a poor tackler that, “He makes Deion Sanders look good at tackling sometimes.”

It was a shot at Sanders, technically, but it wasn’t off base in the least. It’s been reported that Sanders wouldn’t even wear shoulder pads at some practices and he'd explain it by saying, “I’m not gonna tackle anyone anyway.” It’s also been said that Sanders has been known to openly discuss his “business decisions” to let speeding ball carriers pass on by, lest they injure him in some way.

There’s plenty of video evidence out there, too.

So it wasn’t really a shot at Sanders at all. If anything, it was a comment that might upset Peters, who’s still playing and probably doesn’t enjoy being called out on a broadcast that aired in every market except for the Seattle and San Francisco markets. A proper response from Sanders would have been a dig at Romo’s golf game, or something along those lines.

Nevertheless, Sanders put his thin skin on display when he took to the NFL Network airwaves to tear down Romo as a player."

......

and this

"This wasn’t the first instance of Sanders taking exception to such a criticism, as he didn’t respond too kindly to Rodney Harrison pointing out all of his missed tackles back in January of 2009. You’d think that in the near-decade that’s passed, Sanders might have used GPS technology to find that high road.

Nevertheless, Sanders got pretty nasty in firing shots at Romo, who likely worried a bit more about offending active players than he worried about offending retired players when he started the job a few months ago.

What should Romo say? That Deion was a great tackler?

More like when people would call Romo's gunslinger days Favre-esque. The point is that Favre is beyond reproach, as is Deion, and the comparison is flattering. Deion clearly doesn't see himself as beyond reproach, hence his need to respond to Romo. Really Deion is jealous that Romo has one of the best jobs in Deion's business and that Deion is now less valuable than Romo.
I don't think it's that deep. Romo is more mature than Deion and is a better analyst. And because Deion was bred in a trash-talking culture, he lashed out at Romo because that's how he expresses himself. I doubt he's jealous of Romo. He might not think Romo deserves his present assignment, but Romo is showing why he does.

I love how people (I'm focusing on writers now) are trying to bend over backwards to say Romo's comments weren't a dig at Deion.
Yes, they were.
Stop it.

I don't think CBS cares. Ratings baby!!!!

I know this wasn't for me, and I'd never in a million years say Romo was batter than Marino
but

Playoff stats

QB rating
Romo: 93
Marino: 77

TD:int
Romo: 4 to 1 ratio
Marino: 4 to 3 ratio

Compl %
Romo: 62%
Marino: 56%

YPA
Romo: 7.1
Marino: 6.6

Ints rate
Romo: 1.1%
Marino: 3.5%

I know that you realize this, Canada, but you really do need an all-around TEAM to get to the playoffs and especially advance far in the playoffs
Mind your own business!! Lol

Let me ask you this.

When you think of players who were not the most willing tacklers ...who is the first name that pops in your mind? Be honest.

I got to coach Damarious Randall before he went to Arizona State. He was electric, especially at the JuCo level. I called him Prime Time for two reasons though. One, was his amazing athletic ability to return kicks or interceptions for TDs . The second was for the "business decisions" he made as a tackler.

Hopefully Romo trolls Deion in the booth. He doesn't have to address him directly but he can joke about it. Even better if he shows up wearing a random gold jacket that he can say he didn't pay for either

Did Deion actually say "Yo mamma" to Romo?

Screw Deion PERIOD! He was the best corner back and hated to tackle and he was known for that. Regardless if Tony never won a superbowl, he was 10 times a better player than Deion. Ask Deion about loyalty....He has none. He chased Superbowls and thats the only way he was able to get a Superbowl ring. Tony remained loyal to the Cowboys for his ENTIRE career unlike deion.

Deion stupidly criticizes Romo for years, then Romo makes one comment as a joke, and Deion implodes.

Character shows. Always.

I agree, Deion seemed like he never like Romo so he was sitting on Go for Tony. That being said, if you jab someone it's fair game for that person to respond and you can't control the response.

Deion.

But that doesn't mean you say it on the air. You can make your point about Peters being an awful tackler without referencing Deion.

Deion has hated Tony ever since Tony schooled him in basketball in front of a bunch of people ......... according to Darren Woodson.
Would like to know more about this please. I do remember Deion saying that Romo could play some great Bball, Deion when Tony first took over was in his camp but then something definitely happened.
