Interesting Garrett factoids (quotes) from Cowlishaw

Jerry and this organization have a case of wishful thinking. Rather than logic and cold hard facts, jerry likes to imagine things to be true and hope they work. We see it all the time with his players, and now I’m realizing garret was all just a bunch of smoke up the behind this whole time. Rather than finding someone qualified for the job, jerry tried to make his wish come true by trying to force this whole garret matter. In what way does this make sense? It all goes back to jerry tries to cheat and short cut his way to greatness. Like striking oil, year in and year out. He does not understand in the idea of building something in a fashion. Which is why this idea of a process and being loyal to garret was even more of a scam. Garret is an 8 year long scam.

Cowlishaw throws water on the "process" theory to compete for a championship...

"Garrett is one of nine head coaches who have been in their current post since the start of 2011, his first full season. Six have won Super Bowls and a seventh (Carolina's Ron Rivera) at least made the trip."

As usual, this is phrased in a way that hides reality.

Most of those coaches have been in the position longer and have a single Super Bowl to show for it. With most of those (John Harbaugh, Sean Payton, Mike McCarthy) they have a Super Bowl win but it was the only time they went deep in the playoffs.

Another is Belichick, then you have Pete Carroll and Mike Tomlin. Those two have a Super Bowl win plus one other Conference Championship.

Garrett certainly has his flaws but you can also make the argument that he would have the same resume if you took the Dez Catch out of the equation.

I just feel like the team checked out when zekes suspension was upheld.

I don’t think it’s going to lead to any wholesale changes. Maybe the defensive coordinator will retire, but what else besides that?

What’s the deep position in the draft next year?

Hopefully Dallas picks in the area where it’s one of if not the best LB or S....

I hate thinking that way and still want Dallas to 10-6.

It is not just Garrett that is a failure, it is the two coordinators, especially Marinelli. At the end of it all, we have a stale, soft and antiquated D to go along with an offense that pretty much requires perfect conditions to flow correctly.

I think Marinelli will be the fall guy for this season. Which is actually kind of funny because, as bad as he's been, he's the only coach we have with a proven track record of success at his current position.

There are sooo many things wrong with this team.... we are in for a looong run of loosing seaons

I don’t think so..

We have the recipe for a really good team.

We can rush the passer, protect the passer and the football when everyone is healthy, and impose our will with the ground game.

We just need coaches that don’t let the house cave in when there is a leak or two.

Yep, they up and quit when Zeke got tossed.............Unlike the Pats who rallied for Brady, out guys said F-it, and checked out.

Do you not believe playoff success and ultimately, winning super bowls, should be a measuring stick for coaches? I'm not being a smart ***. Your comment is kind of a head scratcher though. Statements like this don't really need to be qualified, they stand on their own as fact. The only reason to qualify it is if you don't agree with criteria.

He won't even be a fall guy.

They let Old Man Kiffin fade away as a consultant instead of putting his head on a pike for one of the worst defenses in franchise history.

So let me get this right...........of the 9 coaches who have been with their respective teams since 2011, Garrett's first full season.........

6 have won SB Championships...............1 went to the SB and lost...........2 have not done jack chit (Marvin Lewis and Jason Garrett)

:lmao2:

But according to Idgit, we all just don't know how to evaluate coaches.........btw, where is he? Dude has vanished like a vampire at sunrise:laugh:

Garrett has been exposed and there really is no way you can defend it.

I know we're trying to emulate the 90's offense which centered on FB play, but why didn't we emulate the defense as well, over a failed philosophy?

Because that defense was never valued very much by Jones or anyone else.

They always were about the Triplets and the offense. Much more marketable if you don't have talent good enough to shut the other teams down.

I always thought our D in that era was somewhat underrated. But they were no Doomsday.

Especially that 92 squad that was ranked #1, but no pro bowlers.

Of course, I agree it should be be a measuring stick. But the way Cowlishaw presented that (or it was stated) ignores the big picture. The majority of coaches didn't last as long as Garrett because they were fired for losing. Then of coaches we weren't fired, the ones he listed had one great season.

Sean Payton hasn't won a Super Bowl in the time Garrett has been Head Coach and he hasn't been to the playoffs in five years. That doesn't make him a bad coach, but I could cherrypick something like Cowlishaw did to make the case he is.

Garrett and Marvin Lewis are the other two coaches. Kind of speaks for itself.

As many on this board have pointed out, sadly, I'm at the point where these performances are what I expect. It absolutely starts at the top with the owner wanting to be the smartest guy in the room and 1) not hiring a true GM to, on a full-time basis, manage and guide this franchise on the field, and 2) doubling down on the error by forcing an unqualified piece into the puzzle to be the leader of the best franchise on the planet.

The franchise that at one time was the standard for sustained excellence and success. Playoffs were a foregone conclusion. We are now relegated to "up" years against weak schedules as a result of piss poor performance the year before or .500 records.

I note commentary the game day coaching is low on the barometer of importance. Then what's the point of having the head coach on the sideline? Games don't "go as planned." And as far as leading up to the game, I think we can agree that this staff doesn't have the answers. A coaching staff's number one job is to put players in the position to succeed. So either our player selection is horrid in that we pick the dumbest players in the world across the board who cant execute game plans offensively or defensively, or the coaching staff is abysmal at doing what they need to do.

Of course, there is the other fall back I see here - we simply don't have the All-Pros across the board to compete. To which I say, who does in the salary cap era?

Not to mention, injuries are a part of the game. Ask Philthy or the Vikings who have both lost key starters, including the starting QB and are succeeding. We crumble and look inept (this year, 2015 minus Romo).

Our problems are points one and two above. IMO Garrett is an abject failure, which if being completely unbiased is not surprising (didn't come up through the ranks and earn success). If the goal is to return the Cowboys to the standard we once had, Jerry will have to swallow the pride and make the move to bring in a "qualified" guy and let him pick his staff, schemes, etc.
