Cowlishaw throws water on the "process" theory to compete for a championship...
"Garrett is one of nine head coaches who have been in their current post since the start of 2011, his first full season. Six have won Super Bowls and a seventh (Carolina's Ron Rivera) at least made the trip."
Garrett and Marvin Lewis are the other two coaches. Kind of speaks for itself.
As many on this board have pointed out, sadly, I'm at the point where these performances are what I expect. It absolutely starts at the top with the owner wanting to be the smartest guy in the room and 1) not hiring a true GM to, on a full-time basis, manage and guide this franchise on the field, and 2) doubling down on the error by forcing an unqualified piece into the puzzle to be the leader of the best franchise on the planet.
The franchise that at one time was the standard for sustained excellence and success. Playoffs were a foregone conclusion. We are now relegated to "up" years against weak schedules as a result of piss poor performance the year before or .500 records.
I note commentary the game day coaching is low on the barometer of importance. Then what's the point of having the head coach on the sideline? Games don't "go as planned." And as far as leading up to the game, I think we can agree that this staff doesn't have the answers. A coaching staff's number one job is to put players in the position to succeed. So either our player selection is horrid in that we pick the dumbest players in the world across the board who cant execute game plans offensively or defensively, or the coaching staff is abysmal at doing what they need to do.
Of course, there is the other fall back I see here - we simply don't have the All-Pros across the board to compete. To which I say, who does in the salary cap era?
Not to mention, injuries are a part of the game. Ask Philthy or the Vikings who have both lost key starters, including the starting QB and are succeeding. We crumble and look inept (this year, 2015 minus Romo).
Our problems are points one and two above. IMO Garrett is an abject failure, which if being completely unbiased is not surprising (didn't come up through the ranks and earn success). If the goal is to return the Cowboys to the standard we once had, Jerry will have to swallow the pride and make the move to bring in a "qualified" guy and let him pick his staff, schemes, etc.
