Interesting Garrett factoids (quotes) from Cowlishaw

Cowlishaw throws water on the "process" theory to compete for a championship...

"Garrett is one of nine head coaches who have been in their current post since the start of 2011, his first full season. Six have won Super Bowls and a seventh (Carolina's Ron Rivera) at least made the trip."

Garrett and Marvin Lewis are the other two coaches. Kind of speaks for itself.

As many on this board have pointed out, sadly, I'm at the point where these performances are what I expect. It absolutely starts at the top with the owner wanting to be the smartest guy in the room and 1) not hiring a true GM to, on a full-time basis, manage and guide this franchise on the field, and 2) doubling down on the error by forcing an unqualified piece into the puzzle to be the leader of the best franchise on the planet.

The franchise that at one time was the standard for sustained excellence and success. Playoffs were a foregone conclusion. We are now relegated to "up" years against weak schedules as a result of piss poor performance the year before or .500 records.

I note commentary the game day coaching is low on the barometer of importance. Then what's the point of having the head coach on the sideline? Games don't "go as planned." And as far as leading up to the game, I think we can agree that this staff doesn't have the answers. A coaching staff's number one job is to put players in the position to succeed. So either our player selection is horrid in that we pick the dumbest players in the world across the board who cant execute game plans offensively or defensively, or the coaching staff is abysmal at doing what they need to do.

Of course, there is the other fall back I see here - we simply don't have the All-Pros across the board to compete. To which I say, who does in the salary cap era?

Not to mention, injuries are a part of the game. Ask Philthy or the Vikings who have both lost key starters, including the starting QB and are succeeding. We crumble and look inept (this year, 2015 minus Romo).

Our problems are points one and two above. IMO Garrett is an abject failure, which if being completely unbiased is not surprising (didn't come up through the ranks and earn success). If the goal is to return the Cowboys to the standard we once had, Jerry will have to swallow the pride and make the move to bring in a "qualified" guy and let him pick his staff, schemes, etc.

What's it going to be then, eh?

It is not just Garrett that is a failure, it is the two coordinators, especially Marinelli. At the end of it all, we have a stale, soft and antiquated D to go along with an offense that pretty much requires perfect conditions to flow correctly.

Another JG factoid from Sturm's article:

"The 515 total yards allowed? The 434 passing yards? The 500-400 club now has eight quarterbacks who have done it against the Cowboys since 1960. Billy Wade did the deed in 1962 win for the Bears and Warren Moon accomplished it in 1991, victoriously, for the Houston Oilers. The other six have done it against the Jason Garrett-coached Cowboys since 2011:

-- Eli Manning in a December 2011 win for New York.
-- Drew Brees in a December 2012 win for New Orleans.
-- Peyton Manning in an October 2013 win for Denver.
-- Matt Stafford in an October 2013 win for Detroit.
-- Kirk Cousins in a November 2016 loss for Washington.
-- Philip Rivers in a November 2017 win for Los Angeles.

Now, what about when you let the opposing passer go for 400 yards, the opposing offense for 500 and never sack him or force them to turn the ball over?

Friends, that has only happened three times in Cowboys history according to our friends at Pro Football Reference: against Brees and the Saints in 2012, Cousins and the Commanders on Thanksgiving Day in 2016 and Rivers yesterday"

The quote about 9 coaches are still with there teams and 7 have gone to the Superbowl is really interesting. At some point you have to show success on the field or you should go. In an age where teams flip from poor to champions in 2 years,

Interesting indeed and puts it into perspective how little he's accomplished vs other tenured coaches. I wonder if there's ever been a coach in NFL history that has been fired the year after winning coach of the year? That's probably bought him at least another season, unless the Cowboys lose the remaining 5 games badly then it' close to a certainty he'll be back. I'm not even sure if we lose the next 5 games by 20 points each that he would be fired. Garrett will throw Marinelli and Linehan under the bus and ask Jerry to go out and get new coaches. Then the process starts over... The new coordinators will make him look good next season and the hand clapping lives on...

Now that is depressing :-(

Let's hear it for a loud round of claps for Jason Garrett...and what is with Cowlishaw actually saying something relevant?

Only in Dallas now, are substitutes thrown into the mix with very same game plan used by much better players missing from the field. Then, no half-time adjustments are made.

Coaching perspectives missing? Then there is the weak schedule aspect that raises an ugly head after a season of destitute response to playing tough teams more.

I'm sorry, Jason Garrett fails the here and now...observed for adequate time, evaluations.

Don't worry, Jerry is right on top of this, he loves his coaches...20 years of futility, now let's go for 20 more years, he has the right coaching staff....

Jerry Jones - Thinks he's a great football mind - Thinks he's the one who won 3 Super Bowl titles - Thinks he knows talent - Thinks he knows coaches and coaching staffs -
Truth - The worst GM this planet has ever seen , across the board.

Jason Garrett - Thinks he's a good leader - says the right things - has the right rules in place, ie, wear suits and the RKG - has the quotes of a thousand poets, claps like Jimmy used to clap - sounds like a robot on stage
Truth - Football dumb - can't manage clock - can't build good game plan - doesn't know what to do when things don't work - talks RKG but has plenty of WKG's on the team - wasn't qualified to even be a Cowboys head coach under any capacity.

Scott Linehan - Never won anything in his life in pro sports - outdated scheme
Rod Marinelli - Old, stubborn - outdated sceme

Does that look like a recipe for success?

The entire coaching staff should have been fired after the disaster to GB in the playoffs last year. 13-3. #1 seed. Bye week. HFA.

One and done.

And to rub salt in the wound, GB got blown out the very next week by the Falcons. With a defense that was not better or worse than what the Cowboys fielded.

But instead of the warranted crucifixions. It was high fives and awards for all.

This franchise deserves everything they are reaping right now. And more.

It was unforgivable. You had a home super bowl in your lap...Cowboys fans from every corner of the Great State of Texas would have flocked to Houston for that Super Bowl. Instead we came out and laid an egg against Green Bay's mash unit. Unforgivable...

Stale, almost "depends" on marinelli getting the ol' fountain of youth

So let me get this right...........of the 9 coaches who have been with their respective teams since 2011, Garrett's first full season.........

6 have won SB Championships...............1 went to the SB and lost...........2 have not done jack chit (Marvin Lewis and Jason Garrett)

:lmao2:

But according to Idgit, we all just don't know how to evaluate coaches.........btw, where is he? Dude has vanished like a vampire at sunrise:laugh:
