We are agreed Dez is just an average WR

Let's just put it where the goats can get it......Dissect, examine and critique Dez for all that's wrong, and turn a blind eye to all that's really wrong with this team. Got it.

72 on 300 attempts for Dez.

65 on 75 attempts for Irvin.
Wonder how Irvins career would have fared with Dak. I actually don't think Irvins career would have fared as well with Romo either. Irvins strengths matched Aikmans. Dez strengths matched Romo well.

There’s nothing average about Dez as a WR. Name one other receiver with his size, strength, hands, ability after the catch.

The problem is he’s not quick or sudden, not overly speedy, and like most guys his size, not a great route runner. The average CB cannot cover him 1-1, but the elite CBs can shut him down unless the qb is willing to continually throw back shoulders and jump balls on time. Dez is a terror in the red zone. He’s definitely not a top WR, but he’s also not average. He’s very valuable if paired with a great route runner and possession receiver on the other side and an OC who designs and calls plays around his strengths.

There’s no excuse for Dez not to at least be an unstoppable possession receiver like Keyshawn Johnson.

I hate when he gives defenses tells by pretending to run block a play in the same manner he would in shorts on the first day of training camp.

Dez WAS great but he could have been so much better. Romo had no problem throwing to guys that arent open and throwing up for grabs. Dak obviously does. And I cant say I blame him.

So with Dez now on the downside of his career, his over paid salary, and the fact that he no longer suits the new franchise QB.....................its time for him to go.

I'll be watching for this thread to resurface Sunday or Monday. I just read Jenkins is out for the Giants, look for Dez to have a big game and people here flip flopping.

No, no, no!

We must look at Dez’s numbers in a vacuum; any other aspects that provide context only cloud the agenda.

Define big game? For Dez, a huge achievement would be simply be a 100 yard game. It's been over a year since he has had one (in the regular season).

I would say 100 yards is a big game and I would gladly take it.

Dez is getting paid way more than the production is worth.................sorry, but that is just a fact. Those 50/50 jump balls are more like 10/90 jump balls these days.

He needs to redo his contract in the offseason and take a pay cut or possibly be released.

Why won't you discuss the 104? Because it doesn't fit your narrative.

You said
"It's a well-known fact that he isn't able to manage getting sufficient separation to be consistently effective now"

FACTS: Here's some of the best in the leagues stats
Yards of separation/target in 2017:

Dez Bryant: 2.4

A.J. Green: 2.4

Emmanuel Sanders: 2.4

Julio Jones: 2.3

Mike Evans: 2.2

DeAndre Hopkins: 2.1

You said "was gradually regressing with Romo as well".

FACT-In 2014 (last year with a competent passer) 88 for 1320 and 16tds. That was a career year for him.

You said "not an elite WR who manages catching a high percentage of his targets to the tune of over 51%".

FACT-. Dez Has 102 targets this season, with 53 catches, per PFF 60 of those targets were uncatchable. Just because he's targeted doesn't mean that the passes are on target, but I will say that he's had too many drops this year.

You said "Capable CBs routinely shadow him these days".

OPINION- Maybe that has as much to do with Dak as it does Dez.

Agree with much of what you posted here, but in the 51% section....60 of his 102 targets were not catchable and yet, he only had 49 "non-catches"....did Dez "Catch" 11 that were uncatchable???? he is superman...

Dez would be more effective with a speedy fast shifty receiver on the other side to open the field up. Coaching staff needs to design plays to utilize his talents. Dez is basically just taken out of the game.

Beasley is having the same problem now.

Defenses are indeed playing him different to take away his bread-and-butter option routes underneath, forcing the ball to go outside.

And because the Cowboys only use him for underneath passes and rarely expand his route tree up the field, it has resulted in the most frustrating season of his career, according to Beasley.

It's unfortunate that his salary outweighs his production these days but I'll blame the front office for that, not Dez, who just isn't what he once was. Separation has always come hard for him, though. I'd say that he was once considerably better than average but now, pretty average and unfortunately, over-generously compensated. It's high time to draft an extremely talented and consistent WR, no doubt there.
Well put sir.
