I would challenge anyone to find a player who was ever paid more money for one game's worth of work. Fans try to minimize that failure, but it was huge.
You are the only one obsessed with it......4m over 2 year is completely forgettable

DAL moved on in Sept and you can't drop it like it is a huge hammer to bang the team with

If anyone Thornton was worse at 9m for a little over a year but both are gone so who cares

I wouldn’t say they played their cards right in FA when they ended up cutting or losing their three top FAs they signed before November.

Hopefully the extra picks allow them some flexibility to move around if need be.
That is because you lack all understanding of roster building.

The key take away is this list of Comp picks 2 years ago:
A conscious effort was made to go get stop gap guys and not reduce the comp pick haul.
Given the haul last time we did this the proof is in the pudding.

The team uses an every other year cycle to add guys in FA so don't avoid it altogether but also maximize comp pick returns.
It will likely become pretty standard around the league as it is very smart roster mgmt and a huge competitive advantage long term.

How different does this season look with Leary, Church, and Carr?
Little to no better.

Church is a better safety than what we played but Carr wasn't and Leary would have been at best a slight upgrade over Cooper.
Resigning those guys would have been dumb. Very dumb. We saw how they tried to move on from Scandrick and why.
The young CBs can all play. Kavon Frazier can play. Xavier Woods can play.
Leary wanted to get paid and then was mediocre in DEN.
DAL likely needs to draft a young OG and now they have a ton of mid-round picks to do so.

It was a dumb signing. He was one of their top 2 FA signings.

It just is another example of how Dallas can’t get FA right.

So smart it’s resulted in zero post season success. So smart that we still have a fairly imbalanced roster.

They could literally crap in a box and send it to you for Christmas and you’d hang it on your tree.

That is why they don't play FA

The 4 Comp Picks are the Delayed Gratification of their strategy but most here don't have the patience for it

DAL has the youngest, most homegrown team if not for Witten, LP and Lee
45 guys under contract next year are draft picks or UDFAs

They also cost over 25m and we will be rolling over 10m to 2018

Possibly no different? The losses of those guys really didn't impact anything IMO.

Not unless Leary could have slid to left tackle, or if Church was planning a move to MLB in Lee's absence.

Everyone knew we weren't resigning Leary.
Mo and Carr were labeled bust and overpaid and attacked like Dez has been this year by the same people crying now that we didn't resign them.
The only question was Church and we weren't guaranteeing him 12 million dollars like Jacksonville did.
Church was graded this season as 21st best Safety by PFF and considered above average. He's 28 or 29.
For that he had an 8 mil cap hit.
We moved Kavon Frazier into that spot making 550k and he is 23 years old.

exactly.
we got murdered at LT with Smith out and none of those guys we didn't sign score touchdowns.
we lost hitchens and lee together at one point and didn't have any full-time NFL starting caliber LBs left.

if anything you could argue we also shouldn't have resigned brice butler or twill.

But see that’s where you are wrong. I value picks. But there is a happy medium between hording a bunch of mid round picks/signing awful FAs and then just blowing cap space and comp picks on overpriced FAs.

You guys rant on about roster building but what exactly have they built? We have a highly flawed, inconsistent roster still.

How long do we have to wait for results? 5 more years? Trends indicate that postseason success isn’t around the corner for Garrett.

At one point we had 15 Rbs/Wrs/TEs..... the whole Elliott suspension really hurt more than just the games he missed..... it wrecked the depth needed to cover for the injuries to the OL and LBs

I find it hilarious that anyone can refer to what the Cowboys did in free agency in 2017 as "playing their cards right".

:lmao:
BtB is trash, my friend.

I know a lot of folks here like it, and that’s all good, but for me it’s unreadable, now. The way they pump this team, especially after a season like this, I can’t read it.

I completely disagree

We are good at QB, RB, OL, TE and have depth at WR that can be upgraded
We are good at DE with DLaw
We need a DT
We are good at LB ...strong if we resign Hitchens
We are good at CB
We are good at S

We need a WR1, RB3, OG/C2, DT2, LB2
We have 10 Draft picks and 50m in salary cap space

Yeah, because that's what actually happened, right? In case you missed it, that's heavy, heavy, sarcasm. Because what you're claiming isn't close to what transpired. You can lie to yourself about it, but you don't get to lie to me or anyone else about it.

DAL moved on in Sept and you can't drop it like it is a huge hammer to bang the team with

Anyone actually paying attention and capable of seeing both the good and the bad "cares". If you can't handle it, the weakness is yours.

You look like an *** here.

And then they want to try to sell you that signing lousy players who contribute nothing was some sort of a "plan" so they'd have more or better compensatory picks.

It's asinine. And anyone making "plans" like that is a moron.

It's more bad than good right now to be sure. Every time they get a decent writer, they're quickly gone for greener pastures.
