That is the only semi rational thing I can come up with that sort of makes any kind of sense.

Jerry is done and he knows it. This final run with Garrett will be his last. He doest want to start over. He is hanging onto that last hope that HIS way with Garrett will bear fruit and he can fade off into the background and let his kids take the mantle. And by keeping Garrett around he keeps that hope alive. Maybe its a promise to his kids, maybe he is just getting old and tired. Or maybe I am dead wrong.

Thoughts?

Jerry keeps him around because he can't get anybody better to coach his team while dealing with him

I doubt Jerry Jones does anything in relation to his own sense of mortality. I have always believed Jones thinks, whatever he defines as the right course of action, is the only viable business philosophy. Certainly, he has grown more flexible over the years but I think he has never wavered from the old 'the buck stops here' mentality. Who knows how more input he receives that counters his everyday decisions but I think he pretty much only accepts anything that fits into his own self-crafted framework of acceptability.

I just hink he doesn't know any better and doesn't want to admit it.

lol, not a chance.

One, strike that, two things he's never been in short supply of is optimism and delusions.

I bet if you were to ask him, he'd tell you he thinks he'll live forever

I agree with CowboyRoy. Jones is 75 years old and should have let it go years ago. He didn't because he couldn't live with the question left unanswered, which is, was Jimmy Johnson responsible for the SB runs in the '90s and part 2 can he can prove it was his leadership as Owner, President, and GM by running the show to another SB victory? He's been chasing this white whale for the last 20 years and, quite frankly, has produced a mediocre record in doing so. He ain't stopping now because the clock ain't stopping. The Cowboys best chance is to have a very good draft, plug the weak spots, and take the game out of Garretts clappity clap hands, by winning it on the field and not letting Garrett have to make or not make decisions. See Ist and goal and no Zeke. Otherwise get ready for another .500 season.

It's not enough for Jerry to win, he has to be seen as the winner. That's not possible with a strong coach that has respect, or a strong GM getting credit for personnel and staff moves.

Which of the following would you choose?

1: Get paid 200K to work and live at the South Pole all year, every year (assume it's possible).

2: Get paid 100K to work and live in the location of your choice.

Just another season of his incompetence that he keeps failing to admit to.

I would take #2

100% agree

I agree... you are dead wrong. :muttley:

That' what Jerry does in regards to wins.

1: Jimmy/Parcells running the show.

2: Jerry is GM with no opposing opinion.
Ah, but you forgot to add winning/common sense into the pic!!!! In the first scenario, you are a super bowl contender. In the 2nd, you hover around mediocrity. Makes it a whole different bowl of worms!!!

That's my point. Jerry took #2 at the expense of Super Bowls.

If not for the stupidity of Minnesota, would Jimmy Johnson be as highly regarded? He didn't accomplish much coaching wise after leaving Dallas. We all know Jones hasn't accomplished much without Jimmy's players. Maybe together they created a perfect storm to success?

I don't even really think Jerry cares about the whole Jimmy thing anymore. It's more along the lines of I'd rather lose my way than win someone else's way. He doesn't really view the Cowboys as this big, international business that has to put out the best product possible and everyone has to be professional, but more along the lines of his own personal family business where he can hire all of his boys and they can have a grand time while getting rich. The quality of the product doesn't matter much when you have a fanbase that keeps showing up no matter what. Hit those pockets and I guarantee you some changes will be on the way.
