That is the only semi rational thing I can come up with that sort of makes any kind of sense.

Jerry is done and he knows it. This final run with Garrett will be his last. He doest want to start over. He is hanging onto that last hope that HIS way with Garrett will bear fruit and he can fade off into the background and let his kids take the mantle. And by keeping Garrett around he keeps that hope alive. Maybe its a promise to his kids, maybe he is just getting old and tired. Or maybe I am dead wrong.

Thoughts?

Agree that the soon-to-be 76yo Jones doesn’t wanna start “the process” over with a new coaching regime.

The ugly truth is, unless JG completely screws the pooch (think: a sustained on-field collapse of Clevelandic proportions), JJ isn’t gonna fire him.

Even worse, Jones is in robust health and isn’t stepping down as GM until he’s got to.

If not for the stupidity of Minnesota, would Jimmy Johnson be as highly regarded? He didn't accomplish much coaching wise after leaving Dallas. We all know Jones hasn't accomplished much without Jimmy's players. Maybe together they created a perfect storm to success?
Jimmy Johnson for a few years knew the best players coming out of college. The salary cap beat him down. Jerry Jones wouldn't know a good player if he saw one.

Which of the following would you choose?

1: Get paid 200K to work and live at the South Pole all year, every year (assume it's possible).

2: Get paid 100K to work and live in the location of your choice.

#2 it would still be a lot more than I "make" in retirement. Sign me up!

Jerry keeps him around because he can't get anybody better to coach his team while dealing with him
Don't be too sure of yourself.

"While discussing Tony Romo's ability as a player and now a broadcaster, Jones was asked about the possibility of Romo being a future coach of the Cowboys.

"Let's don't speculate," Jones said. "Tony is very capable of being an outstanding coach in the NFL. It could easily be in the future for him because he just loves the competition part of it. But let me tell you, he's got things that he wants t
o do better, things he needs experience at in his [TV] commentary. ... Tony is as naturally, mentally as gifted regarding our game, regarding football, regarding nuances that can be really enhanced, which is creativity. I don't know that I've seen his equal."

I'd like to see Romo start as a QB coach, and progress to OC. From everything I've heard about him, he has a good football mind.

That is very true. But you also don't find the big three that often. Maybe they both just got lucky!

It would be nice if that was the plan, Romo would be an awesome QB coach and future OC for the Cowboys. Dak produced much better when Romo was coaching him

Jerry's red balls will continue to entertain well into the 2020's....when they fail again in 2018, a whole new set of excuses will become prevalent....what an embarrassment this franchise has become...I will still watch them until the day I die, but I will hope that some day, something changes and the ownership changes....until then we have:

I think that’s part of it.

The bigger issue is Jerry is determined to build a championship team without a coach like Jimmy who would recieve more credit. Winning isn’t enough for Jerry. He only wants to win his way and seeks validation as a football guy.

And Jerry feels comfortable with Garrett. He’s by far the best puppet never waivering or calling out Jerry. Garrett has just enough success a couple seasons bringing in as much talent with Jerry since Parcells was here plus winning Coach of Year validated Jason isn’t as bad a coach as some want to portray.

I believe Jerry has bigger plans for Garrett and why he’s gone to such extremes to support and defend him . But the questions in Garretts coaching ability is perfect for Jerry’s pursuit. It will allow for Jerry to recieve his credit. Jerry is very loyal to those around him that don’t cause any dissension.

I truly believe it’s a perfect fit for Jerry and probably about as good of a situation as we can hope for within the dysfunctional atmosphere Jerry presents .

JJ is waiting for the final touches on his cybernetic body. They are having problems with corrosion when hard liquor is ingested. His six pack abs carefully sculpted to resemble Zeke's are not up to code. The right arm has the strength of Dan Bailey's leg, but zero accuracy. There's still a lot of work to do and JJ just has to hang in there until the technology is complete.

Jerry has no respect for head coaching. He thinks is just a figurehead job and they dont do much. And that is basically what he has in Garrett.
