Who all has jumped on either of those trains that weren't on them when the 2017 season started?
Has ANYONE decided either of these guys are awesome and you have gone from hating them to being on their bandwagon?
Sorry my friend, both have great skill sets if we play to them. If not then they are average at best. While many of us wish for players that can do everything to any defense out there, it takes great scheming and even better execution from both the player and the QB. Maybe all should work on such this off season.
You still sold on both?
Witten is a two trick pony but does them well. Sadly his blocking has become awful. His false starts are also becoming an issue. If we played to his strengths another year or two might not be so bad. It still takes working with the newer QB.
Dez still has wheels if he shuts down the ego and works with his QB. Both were poor last year, both can improve. To be honest if both were passionate about their career they would work together this off season and fix a lot of their issues......
Witten is slow but steady. We could use him situationally if we had speed elsewhere, but his salary is too high. If we could get him to take a significant pay cut, get some speed at receiver and only play him on about 30 percent of the snaps he could have value to the team.
Dez probably isn't going to work on anything other than practicing throwing up the "X" in the mirror because he is Dez.
Both players still have something to offer, but neither are what they once were. That said, they can still both play a valuable role if used correctly. Dez's 2018 salary is going to be an issue though.
As for Witten, they should start reducing his plays, especially on first and second downs more starting next year. He still has great hands, but the decline in his blocking ability was easily noticeable this year. Swaim was playing pretty well in 2016 before his injury and Hannah made some really great catches on the run this season. If Gathers returns next year, he could definitely be nice addition to the passing game.
I have never understood why fans turn on Cowboys players, especially those who have had great years in the past for Dallas. There is nothing wrong with thinking they have lost a step or even that it is time to move on from them, but you can do that without hating the players.
Both can still be useful, yet both shouldn't be the main focus. I think Witten hinders the offense more though, we need a legit threat at TE.
I still say that Dez could go to another team and produce much better than here. One needs to slowly be phased out while the other needs to be used correctly for this scheme.
Another thing that amazes me about this fanbase is how some will defend players like Byron Jones who haven’t done crap for this team and hate on players like Witten who’ve helped us win games. Some have finally started to come to grips with some of the issues Jones has but it’s taken 3 full seasons and watching him get benched.
It's not about hating on Witten, I love the guy and what he has brought to the team. But, at some point you have to realize he is becoming a detriment to the offense. Dallas holds onto players too long for various reasons.
I want Witten here next season but it would be nice to incorporate a new TE in the mix and not just a catch or two spread out over the season.
I think this offense needs that speedy, vertical threat to fully reach its potential. Bring in Jason when that critical 3rd down is needed.
It is not Witten's fault that the coaches can't find a good replacement. Jason is still the best TE on the roster.Talk about Dez sucking all you want but when you include Witten in that conversation, you've gone too far. Witten is a living legend that should be respected. I'm glad he's coming back next season.
